Forward only tranny.........
Here is a pic of my forward, high speed only tranny. This should help lower the rotating mass plus help shed some overall weight...........
Hope the pic comes thru

RE: Forward only tranny.........
Hello-Here I am. Sorry for posting the same pic twice ( first time posting a pic ) If you look at an old post of a pic of the complete tranny, you'll see that I removed quite a bit ( yes, some by machining ). I saw someone post their forward only and I copied that plus decided to do a little more. The 3 opened holes were plugged with J-B weld. I left the reverse axle system in but I think the tranny would have survived w/o it ( would be like a diff then ) but decided to leave it in for now. The bearing is held in with a small amount of CA glue - there is no force/load on the bearing in the direction to make it move. I then J-B welded the two clutch dog faces to each other - again no forces acting to try to disengage then away. Anyway w/o any machining you can remove quite a bit. Just look at the post of the entire tranny and look again at mine and you'll see the removed/machined parts. Think how much LOSI could save making a forward only tranny I think/hope I answered everything. Most of you folks are very observant and I was reluctant to post but I just wanted to share what I did. Any other questions just ask.

Forgot to address this question.....
Nope -all parts are stock. Once you remove the clutch dog from the shaft you'll see a hump in the middle of the shaft that's quite larger in diameter than the rest of the shaft. I just decided to turn down the hump then I decided to remove a little more material from the entire shaft (even smaller diameter ).

Have you ran it much yet? It looks like some nice work and I am serious, I would send you a top shaft to do that to, if you are so inclined.

ONE,
Have you considered doing some modding for $$?? If so, i would consider just sending you a tranny and have you mod it?!?
Or, you could pic up tranny's and mod them and sell straight out.....
If you decide that you want too.....let us know an amount!

RE: Forward only tranny.........
This is a really easy mod - just got mine done - I'll post pics as soon as I can.
Instead of machinind down the upper slide shaft like Mr. No-One, I just picked up another Hi/Lo Selector (LOSB3108) and used it on the top shaft. Used JB weld to hold the selectors in place - just waiting for it to dry.
Thanks Mr. No-One for showing us how easy of a mod this is!

Here it is - it's really a simple mod even without any access to a lathe, although I wish I could turn down the other gear on the top shaft... but anyway I'm liking the results. Will let you know how it does as soon as I can run it...

RE: Forward only tranny.........
MadRC - that looks great ! I was just showing how EZ it is to make a FOC. We finally had a nice day today and tomorrow is supposed to be even better. Anyway it was forecasted -so I got everything charged up and was prepared to try the FOC. MAN this thing is sick ! I didn't change anything else but the tranny and now it pulls wheelies on demand . A little too much sand on my street still, but after the truck is already rolling, I nailed the throttle and the front went up in the air for the first time on pavement !! The truck also appears to be much quicker and overall faster with the FOC. Only thing is, now when I decelerate there is a whining sound coming from the truck ( tranny, I assume ). Not sure why or what's going to happen next but is sounds like a GM 6-71 blower .

Would you be willing to do this modification for me? I can send the tranny and cash to you, you do the modification, then send it back. What do you think?

RE: Forward only tranny.........
I would love to, but I only had access to the lathe for a short time and it is no longer available to me. But, I think you can make lots of improvements just by removing things and cutting. Look at the photos of what others have done and basically do the same except for turning down the gear and the shaft. You can save lots of rotating mass just by un-screwing some screws and removing gears. ( U may have to heats up some of the screws for removal ). It's very EZ to modify so don't be afraid to try it. Then, you can always put everything back on if you want to.

The gear mesh may be too tight causing the whining sound, try loosening the gear mesh. I did the same thing resetting the mesh once. Cool mod, good luck.

RE: Forward only tranny.........
I put ( a very, very small amount ) the JB weld on the clutchdog to gear faces. Look at the other photo in this thread and you'll see where I mean. There is no force trying to separate the clutchdog from the gear, so only a tiny amount is needed.
Schelpp - you might be right there. I didn't change the shimming at all but your right it could have change when I removed everything. It did however feel like the mesh was right on though when I went to reassemble. But thanks -I'll check it out. [8D]
