Stainless looks cool and will resist corrosion but they were always too soft for my liking. I've been using [link=http://www.killerhobbies.com/Browse_Item_Details.asp/Item_ID/282913/categ_id/81/parent_ids/0,90,18,81/Name/Hexcrews_Team_Losi_LST_screw_conversion_kit_-_LSLST-0919]HexHeads Hex screws [/link] on my R/C for years. I started out buying the [link=http://www.killerhobbies.com/Browse_Item_Details.asp/Item_ID/282913/categ_id/81/parent_ids/0,90,18,81/Name/Hexcrews_Team_Losi_LST_screw_conversion_kit_-_LSLST-0919] conversion kit [/link] but now I just buy the common LST sizes in quatities of 100. The are heat treated and machined. Not very many screw places advertise their Rockwell hardness (43) and tensile strength (177,000 psi) on their [link=http://www.hexcrews.com/HexHeadsAP-FactSheet.htm]website.[/link]

I buy the 4-40X1/2, these hold the plates to the chassis rails and 4-40 x 5/8 these hold the ends to the bulks. It's very important to keep all of these tight. A split level multiplate chassis gets most of it's strength from the firm attachment of the plates to the rails. On my racer I check my screws between almost every qual and for sure before a 30 minute main, it takes just a few moments. I've never busted a chassis on the track......

I just checked the drive shaft set screws, all 4 were loose and not a hint of loctite from the factory. I'm glad I checked before starting the break in. The front one was only screwed in half way.

At the end of the day these things are only built by humans, and those humans are allowed to make mistakes. Its unfortunate that its occured this occasion, but it isn't the first and it wont be the last.
My original LST had no such problems and each of the grub screws had been threadlocked in and screwed in very tight, as such I've never had a problem.

Something as simple as thread locker was missed and is now causing people grief. When someone drops $650+ for a LST2...1/4 cent of thread locker on the drive train is expected.

Yes, its expected and intended. But that doesn't stop people from making a mistake. At the end of the day Losi don't build their own vehicles, yes perhaps they should of paid more attention to this first batch but like I said, at the end of the day its an average joe with a screw driver. Although if I was building it I wouldn't of missed it

Corporations / Companies aren't allowed to make mistakes, at least not reputable ones with an active customer base (ie. us). You make too many mistakes and your repuation goes down the drain, customers stop buying your products, etc. Even if the "guy with the screwdriver" makes a mistake, the corporation is supposed to have a system in place to catch and correct that mistake, "Quality Control", "Final Inspection", etc. Simply that humans "aren't perfect" doesn't mean that every product that rolls off the line shouldn't be. If you buy a real truck and while driving along the transmission drops out due to a manufacturing defect, in the end it will come back to the manufacturer and it will ultimately be their responsibility to pay the price of fixing the problem (and of any other damage caused). In this case it may only eat away at their reputation for those involved, but that's still a very important thing. In the end most companies that do care about their customer base will honor terms above and beyond the warranty, etc.

I agree with the thread lock thing. A $600 truck should be right when you get it but when your turning out about 2000 a week things get overlooked. It sucks but such is life. The worst thing is finally getting your Monster and then being out of cammission for a week due to the lack of thread lock. I'll be checking mine as soon as it gets here. I got the new LST2 on the way I just sold 2 regular LST's so this ain't my first time around with the Big Monster Losi. Had a couple issues with the regular LST truck but it looks like they fix them on the new LST2.

RE: Loctite your LST2 screws!
My front cvd came off yesterday, I put some red loctite on it. The truck had no power and I was like ut-oh. So I'm like hmm I wonder if its a grub screw since I hear all this talk about them on the net, sure enough it was. I was lucky though, it only backed partially out so it was still there.
