Default LSt2 Roar engines

hey juts wondering what you guys would recomend for a good low end roar legal engine. It has to be .28, i belive so i am thinking of the wasp .28. are there any better choices for a reasonable price?
thanks

Dude, you gotta try the LRP .28 and if you are running 40 series, a set of 8man +2 hardened steel pinions.

You don't find that it took away too much low end? Perhaps a better question: can you still get to 30 mph in the same # of feet as before?

Not at all (loss of lowend). I ran this tank for tank against my lighter SF .32 power racer with stock gearing. I have a 2600mah on the front shock tower of the LRP racer and a 1400mah on the front of the SF .32 powered machine with stock gearing. I am begining to believe that the stock gearing with 40 series tires puts me out of the powerband too often. I can flip the SF .32 on its lid at will (trust me) but the LRP is quicker!!!! I would not go beyond +2 for the track, +2 simply brings you back to stock overall gearing with 40 series tires.

2d- what body is that you are running? I picked up the Crowd Pleazer and I have to have the body posts all the way up (I have a roll bar on though). Good looking truck!

Chovy - whatever you do, stay away from the wasp 28! It is junk...does not tune well, does not hold a tune and is very, very picky...I threw mine on the cement it pissed me off so bad.....now the new wasp 28 pro might be different, but the normal wasp 28 is JUNK! (It does make a LOT of power WHEN it is tuned...but that was so hit or miss for me I tossed it). If you have the cash, get a Nova 28 8 port...you will not find a faster/stronger engine (about double the cost of the LRP 28 though). Good luck!

I run LOSI LST racer bodies. You can run them with the body posts all the way down and they are very thick.

Paint by rcbodz.com......

The LOSI LST racer body is a aquired taste but damn they are tough!! Make sure you re-enforce the rear body post area!!

I expect to get ~18 to 30 races out of each of these, hope monster truck class sticks around for awhile.....

Nice...I like those bodies...what did you use for the rear reinforcement? Is that a sheet of aluminum? if so, where do you get it (home depot, lowes, or hobby shop...) Thanks!

SublimeJason is correct here's one turned upside down so you can see what it looks like.

It will save your body and by doing that save your fuel tank during bash sessions and on the track.

I don't like engines with a sharp power curve, I can do more with a 6 port and the LRP Spec 2 is a 6 port +1.

Ok im about to ask a stupid question. But what are you talking about when you say 8 main? Is that the clutch bell if so where do you find other clutch bells besides stock. And im guess when you say 2 steel pinions your talking about spur gears. If im wrong please explain this to me thanks

8man over at LSTCentral makes replacement pinions with more teeth.

+2 reffers to the number of teeth up.

Yes, 8man makes custom hardened steel pinion gears ranging from +2 all the way up to +6 (insane). When you go from stock size tires down to a 40 series racing tire you loose the wonderful gearing of the stock LST. I found that as I became a better and faster racer I needed the extra speed, or I should say I needed stock speed.

The LRP cost me $155 on ebay. It runs very smooth and revs quickly. I like the LST starting system and that all bolts right up (from the crank back do not use the one-way that comes with it unless you are doing the pull start, use the one-way from your Mach) to the LRP. The LRP has a machined venturi, no inserts, idles forever, starts first hit and runs cool.

There's a lot of info like this over at LSTCentral.com without the poll and vs threads populated by newbs with opinions. I did not express my opinions till I was 5 trucks and 5 years into the hobby but now a days 2 gallons and Revo and you become a R/C expert, it seems..............

another good vid 2d....I liked the bloopers at the end! I have noticed that for as large as the lst2 is, it does jump very well - it can take off center landings like none other!

2DMaxLST, have you tried swapping the two gears around when you install the FOC? Just wondering how it would compare to going up a couple of teeth on the pinions. I have not done the math yet to see how the ratio would work out.

[link=http://www.dennisnadams.com/upload/LST_Gear_ratios.xls]Excel: You may find this spreadsheet useful...[/link]

A excellent contributor over at lstcentral created this spreadsheet. I have two FOC tranny's, one with the swap and one without. You do get a slight bit more speed with the swap but nothing like the +2 pinions.

FOC Input shaft Gear = 22t
FOC Counter Gear TiNi = 23t

by swapping these around you get either 1.04 (TiNi on top) or .95 (TiNi on bottom)..

1.04/.95 * 100 = 9.5% difference

Stock High Speed Spur = 63 teeth
Stock High Speed Pinion = 25 teeth
stock yields a ratio of 2.52 = 0%
With plus 2 pinions 2.33 = 8.15%
with plus 3 pinions 2.25 = 12%

I had no idea the gear swap yeilded this much.......... [X(][X(][X(] I would not have guessed it.
