Typically, when an R/C "backfires" what you are experiencing is severe detonation. That can be caused by several things, but what is happening is that a combination of advanced timing and overcompression is making the engine fire way too soon.

Make sure you are using the right fuel for your situation: If the engine you have came out of the factory set for 20% and you use 30, add a head shim and go to a colder plug. That will add space to the combustion chamber and retard the timing.

just stating as he is a bike mechanic, i get worried at the slightest odd sound coming from my 2 poke bikes and imediatly assume its detonation and im gonna blow my engine

change the glow plug

I've had this happen to me a couple times

..............if you've had your glow plug for 1/2 a gallon or more, it's most likely the glow plug
