Default LRP Z.28R Spec 3 or Axial .28 Spec 1S Engine

Hi, I am know in the market for a new engine for my LST and I have a few questions.

1. does anybody knows where I can find the RPM, HP and stuff like that of this engines?
2. What engine out of these two is the best? power, reliable, easier to tune?
3. What is the difference between the LRP spec 2 and LRP spec 3?
4. does the spin start system work on these engines?
5. what glow plugs do you recommend, I run 30% nitro.
6. does anybody here actually run any of these 2 engines in their LSTs? if so, how they perform?

thanks in advance.

Right on dude. The lrp motor that you ordered is probably about the best engine on the market right now. Atleast for monster trucks. I am hoping to get one some time in the near future to put in my losi.

the spin start off of the Mach engines should be a direct fit, as i have a mach.26/.28 back standard back plate on mine. As for the spec2 to the spec 3, the 2 has 6 port, good bottom end and midrange, the 3 is a 9 port, and has crazy power all over.

I was faced with the same choice, LRP or Axial. Sounds like I made the wrong choice according to the thread. For what it's worth now, I bought the Axial 28 Spec1s for $125.00. It has done very well. I can not compare to the LRP as I don't have one, but the Axial is a good engine. I decided based on the rebuild kit comes with Piston, Liner, AND ROD. All of this in a kit for $59.00. I bought the Axial and rebuild kit and have been very happy. Now have two gallons on it and running great. Hopefully I won't need the kit for some time, but I have one if it goes.

thanks for clearing me out, I am so happy that the spin start fits because I hate pull starts!

Its nice to know that the axial is running good, because I think the price is just awesome! and if it runs good like you say, I may probably get one latter for a back up engine, I race!
How do you compare the stock engine with the axial? more power or something?

Comparing the Axial 28 to the Dynamite Mach 4.27, I have more top end with the Axial. No problems on the bottom end either but deffinatly more top end. Axial is an 8 port sleeve, composite carburetor, 8.5mm opening with a three needle adjustment. The composite carb hold it's adjustment better with a lot less heat ransfer from the engine. There is also an optional turbo button head available, but I just run what it came with and have been very happy with it's performance.

The Axial explodes when you give it full power and it continues to pull very strong all the way through its RPM range. Like I said, top end is great. In a drag race, the Mach427 may jump out just a bit, but the Axial will overcome it real soon and continue to pull past it.

Here's my LRP Spec III LST racer. You can click the picture to see video of it racing from this past weekend.

I don't have any experience with the Axial .28, but it's basically a tweaked version of the HPI 4.6, which I do have some experience with. You would have to mod the hell out of the HPI 4.6 just to keep up with a stock LRP spec 2, if it's even possible. My spec 2 powered Savage is faster than the two similarly built Axial .32 and Surefire .32 powered Savages I have been around, if that tells you anything.

I'm sure the Axial .28 is a nice engine though, and based on the HPI 4.6's reputation, it should have good longevity if you take care of it... but it just doesn't have the same explosive power of the newer 6 and 8 port SH based mills.

yes the axial looks like a nice engine for the price, Its to spect that your lrp spec 2 powered savage is faster than your two savage powered by the .32´s because a small engine can rev higher that a big engine right? but how is the torque of the trucks? does the . 28 have less torque than the .32´s?

2DmaxLST: I have a couple of questions, why you run the battery pack up front? and if you seal your engine? is that necessary or important?

[link=http://lstvideos.com/10142006/LRP_Spec_III_tank7_part1.wmv]After lots of heat cycles I am finishing up breakin on a LRP Spec III here, good torque in a LST[/link]

I run 600oz's of servos on a race LST, I run a 2700mah pack strapped to the front shock tower, it increases steering and keeps the front end down allowing me to accelerate in a rapid manner as required on the track.

I don't seal LRP's, good engines don't need it.

My LRP was coming off the track at 238 after a five minute qual this past weekend.

The engine in the video had about 24 cycles over the course of 2 or 3 LST1 tanks and is the best running engine I have ever owned. I like to go between ~3 and 5 minutes and always try to hit 200.

I don't go full throttle but don't be afraid to rev it a bit and lean almost immediately to get it to temp.

I don't have to deal with the cold weather much but I would think if it is below 50 or so I would cover the head.

The was the third qual in the Region 9 Roar championship. Remember that in quals you are racing the clock and he dropped before I did so I was still overall TQ throughout the race until the 20 second marshal job that I got....(my fault for needing marshalled). That is a Revo and he is the best driver I know.

We both race at T4BB and pit next to each other he keeps me on my toes and always provides some good racing action.

We have gone as high as 8 LST's with the rest Revo's and a couple of Savages and a Tmaxx. I was the only LST for a long time and then lots of guys got them so they could be more competitive. The important thing is we have a good mix and two full heats most nights.
