LST2 is now 2-Wheel Drive!
My son's LST2 broke something somewhere last night and I havn't had time to look yet, but you guys always seem to have the answers. Truck is only moving with front wheels. If I lift the truck and turn the left-rear wheel, the right one spins the opposite direction and vice-versa. So, what part of the diff hatched, or is it something with the drive shaft? Thanks.

The pin is in place in the cup as is the pins at the trans. If I tilt the truck up on one side and turn the drive shaft (front or back), the side with the wheels in the air turn together.

i guess now you have to take the rear diff out and inspect it, unless it has something to do with the axles (pins, cups ect) and check and make sure your wheels are not stripped where the hexs go.

Before I pull the diff, does anyone else have any suggestions? Does the described issue lean towards something wrong in the diff and not the trans?

The diffs are easy to take out and I had the same problem not to long ago. I think you remove 6 screws to get the rear diff out. Sounds like the pinion in the diff is probally shot. If it was the transmission I would think you would not have any wheels turning.

you dont need to remove the shocks to remove the diff , just remove the bumper(3 screws) , bulkhead plate(4 scews) slide off the 2 diff retainer , slide out 2 lower hinge pin and there you have it

fot the front yes you do...[&:]atleast just remove the bottom two screws of the shocks in order to get the axles to move back to allow the diff out.

RE: LST2 is now 2-Wheel Drive!
Ok ... finally got around to working on my son's LST2. The easiest, since we have two, was to just swap out the rear diffs. However, his diff works fine in mine and his is still front-wheel drive only. So now I'm down to the trans. BUT, this gets out of range. What the heck do you guys suggest I look for? His truck pulls fine in the front and the trans switches from forward to reverse just fine. I thought about swapping the trans, but that will probably just prove what already appears obvious - something with the trans. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

i know you said that you already checked your set screws, but did you take them out, clean the old locktight off, and re-install with good locktight. sounds simple but it drove me crazy as well.
