after reading RJ's response it looks like I will stick to the 1.60fx. I really want to try to hang it on the prop but I guess that will have to wait

This might be off topic but there are a few of you that have mokis in this thread. Did any of you have problems with the Moki running good? I am asking because one of you is running a pump, one is adding acetone to the fuel, and a friend of mine has the 1.35 and had problems with it transitioning so he adapted an OS carb. The other ? I have is, is it hard to get the Mokis to run good on 0% home brew? I have access to good methanol and would use Klotz oil.....

    Thanks,

    WOOD

    Diablo,

You will not have to wait for the hovering experience if you use the OS 160. With the right prop it should develop 16 to 18 pounds of static thrust which is way more than enough to hover that airplane with plenty left over for a right smart pull-out. My Webra 1.2 with a Bambula 16-8 prop develops 14 pounds of static thrust and it hovers the G202 but it takes close to full throttle with very little left for pull-out so no low altitude attempts are made.

    Wood,

I have the Moki 1.8 on a H9 Edge 540. It is a great running engine with no bad habits. I have not tried it on a straight methanol/oil fuel so I cannot speak to that. I use 5% fuel with 18%oil and it runs great, no pump, this engine draws fuel great if you keep the tank right up against the fire-wall.

The pump has helped with fuel economy. Moki's can be guzzlers. A friend of mine has a 1.8 that burns around 1 3/4 oz per minute. Mine burns 3/4 oz per minute, and I think it has to do with the pump. I don't run lean. Moki's like to run wet, and proper break in is critical to ending up with a well-behaved, good running Moki.

Another reason for the pump is 3D flying. Another friend of mine has had engine-out during low hovers . All things being equal, a pump will avoid this, IMO.

Hey, I have a 30% Carden that I am looking to sell the airframe. I would like to keep the engine but who knows! The kit is $500 and I will sell the plane for that price!

    I've tried an APC 16x8, a MA 'Classic' 18x6 and a Zinger 18x6 (standard).

The Zinger prop worked, to an extent. Lots of thrust, real good braking ability, but too slow - I estimate the plane's max speed right near 45 - 50 MPH. Despite the abundant amount of thrust produced the plane was no fun to fly - it fely 'mushy' all the time.

The MA prop performed similarly to the Zinger with one addition - prop noise! Mind you - I love the sound of a big 'ol prop ripping through the air, but this thing was ridiculous. If your flying site has a noise limitation don't even bother with this prop.

The plane flew best with the 16x8. There wasn't as much thrust available, but the cruising speed was comfortably higher. Due to the small control throws used the Giles responds a lot more crisply at higher airspeed.

I was going to try an APC 18x8N once the engine has had some additional breakin time. Sadly I had an engine flamout on takeoff - just after rotation - and didn't have enough altitude or airspeed to save it. (I was trying the Zinger 18x6 prop again. Coincidence?)

do you think it is neccesary to fly faster? 50mph seems about right for regular maneuvers. Am I wrong?

Excuse all my questions as this is my 1st large plane
