    Diablo,

Hey, congratulations on your decision. I see you got a Giles. I also read that you decided on the 160. Good choice. Thats what I had in mine and now in the new one I am assembling. Slow going due to work. Arrgh. Hope to complete and be in the air next weekend. Man I want to get it finished. Nice looking airplane form the pictures I saw that you posted. I told you you would lie it. What servos are you putting in?

No there not mine! I'm a licensed pilot but no Giles! I had a Piper Arrow. I've had my kit since they were on sale for $199.00 Just started building it last week! Alot more work than expected but my experience with ARF's is they usally are! During bulid up is the best to fix problems! I put Dubro Giant Scale hinges in it! I'm going with the OS 160 from everyones good reviews on the Plane with it. There is so much information from past post from other builders we are now able to make Correct decisions from others experience! A freind of mine in our club is on his third one! Just Plan Flew the wings off the first three! He's running a Saito 180fs. He says balance the Plane 9.5 inchs from the ailerons! He's had three so that's were I'm balancing mine!
I have a world models Extra 30. I put a Magnum 46 in it! It's quick but a hand full! I'd like the Giles to be Fun not nerve raking! I also have a Four Star 120 with a 120 OS fs! Nice plane but like watching paint dry compared to the Extra!

    Roger-

gonna be Hitec 5645MG's for Rudder and Elevator and maybe some 654's on the ailerons. Share pics of your as well. Love to see it

I might chop the ailerons and re-do the hinges as well. Got some ideas floating around.

anyone have any exp with Smoke systems and the 160fx?

Gentlemen, PLEASE remember to re-enforce the top of the wing around the saddle area. Over time, the balsa sheeting will crack and could cause a failure.

Yup Geistware, after about 400 very hard flights on my Giles I'm starting to notice some wear and tear on the top of the wing. If it makes it through this fall I'm gonna glass it over before I put the ski's on it for winter, I have been watching for that since I read about this problem in one of the other Giles threads. Thanks for the heads up, it's one of those things you don't really see unless your looking for it. I guess I'll go ahead and do both of them at the same time.

Rockman- very impressive you have that many flights on your plane. What setup do you have?

Has anyone moved servos into the center to keep it from being tail heavy? Has anyone had that problem yet with tail weight?

Just an update on the wing and fuselage cracking thing on the G202. I contacted
Great Planes and a spokesperson E-mailed me back with a response. It is Great Planes position that they canot control what powerplant is used and what type of manuevers are flown and that any aircraft can be flown in such a way that the structure can be overstressed yaddy yaddy yaddy blah blah blah etc.. Basically they are unaware that a structural cracking problem exists with this ARF. This was not the response I was hoping for, I wasn't looking for a refund, just some type of factory developed repair scheme or service bulletin. I find it hard to believe that they have not heard of all the cracks that are developing in the 202 airframe. And so it goes.

Noticed some folks seemed to be floundering when it comes to prop choice. I have tried both Top Flite Pro and Zingers in 18x6/10 and the MasterAirScrew 18x6 Classic. The Classic was a giant mistake and I ended up stalling the plane on landing. Good thing this plane is tough as a nail. Massive breaking on closed throttle and as other found with this size, barely sufficient speed. Poor OS 1.60 had to howl to fly the plane and yes the prop howls.
The dual pitch(?) props were the opposite: pure magic, speed to burn( I fly with the throttle stick at less than 1/3 open) , vertical to burn. Using a Perry pump I flew over 30 minutes on slightly less than 24 oz of fuel and went vertical pretty much each pass around the field. I especially like the way it(the prop) flys the pattern. Very easy to keep up speed and yet kill it for landing.

Make sure that you fix the wing ASAP. THE spar is balsa and WILL fail!

I found a GP Giles 202 with a Moki 180 and Futaba 8 super on an auction and got it for a song, I am on my way out west to pick it up and this thread is very interesting to me. I am still on a Kadet LT40 trainer, but almost ready for my Northeastern Sport-Air 40, then with some good weekend weather I might be ready to move into flying this new quarter scale rocket by early spring. I will be gone for a week but will follow this thread intently to learn more about the GP Giles 202. Thanks for being here, guys! It makes it easier to feel comfortable stepping up to the transmitter!

no problem friend! Things are a bit different for some of us here with the changes to the forum but we are hanging in there. I have learned an incredible amount in such a short time by simply asking questions reading things here. Its amazing!

regarding the plane I will be putting servos in it next week and will fire it up for the 1st time. Def will post a flight report.

    regards

    matt

Did you get the decals? How about a picture of the progress being made?
