Ok I have read many threads via the search tool and am still confused. hehe

I recently acquired a GP Giles 202 from geisterware here and its HUGE! I have read that he os160fx is good power but I am also looking into other alternatives.

My goals for his plane are good pattern/Imac flying which im sure the 160FX will do but id also like

    - Vertical performance
    - Hover capability
    - waterfalls, blenders etc (this is more setup related)

not looking for all out 3d but some basic stuff would be nice so im sure powerplant has alot to do with it

Anyone suggest anything else over the OS 160fx?

    SuperTigre G3250 or G4500?
    others?

    thanks

    matt

I just got mine and I plan to use a Moki 180. The MVVS 160 gasser is also a good choice but not as powerfull. The 160 FX is a very nice choice also.

My buddy had one with an OS 160 on it. Pulled it nicely for the 10 seconds it was in the air (A story for another time). Used a Bambula 18 X 10. Had plenty of power.

I just wish it had a 2 piece wing, but then I favor 2 piece wings anyway. Those are just to big to cart around as one piece.

yes the wing is huge, gonna have to do some work to make it fit in my little Honda Civic. I just hope the 160 doesnt turn this into a fiasco like my H9 CAP 232 with a 46fx. it flew fine but power was horrible. Sometimes I get the feeling from reading other threads that it s a bit underpowered with it. Thats why I want to get other opinions and options before I settle on one motor

    Moki 1.80

    Weight: 42 oz
    HP: 4.10 @ 9,200 RPM
    Prop: 18x8 for break in 20 X 6 to 20 X 8 for aerobatics:
Recomended Muffler: Bisson Pitts style, with installed pressure tap (Only 5.3oz

    OS 1.60

    Displacement: 26.23cc (1.60 cu in)
    RPM range: 1,800 - 10,000
    Bore: 33.6mm (1.32"
    Stroke: 29.6mm (1.17"
    Weight: 925g (32.6oz)
Horsepower: 3.7 BHP at 9,000 RPM

ive never flown large engines so I dont know how each is. The numbers indicate the Moki has more power but at the cost of being 10oz heavier I dont know if that will make a diff

One thing to consider with the moki is the low cost fuel it need to run. You can run it with o% nito and the engine pull like a loader..

My Moki 1.80 burns just under 3/4 ounces per minute, using 5% fuel. I like it. Power to spare. Pulls my Sig 300XS with power to spare.

how intense is your flying? Do you do any 3d like tumbling or similar? Do you know what your plane weighs?

    thanks

Flying intensity no so intense. Plane weighs 14.3 lbs empty. Unlimited vertical. Solid knife edge at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Hover about the same. Spinning a 19x8 Mej prop.

I have the Moki 1.8 in my Noble R/C 1/4 scale Giles. I absolutely love this motor. A great combination for this plane. Power to spare, and I'm running home brew fuel with 0% nitro. Just Methanol, 15% oil 80/20(after break in), and a cap full of acetone for transition. I recommend this to anyone. Fuel costs are much lower, and the performance is phenominal. My flying buddies are all looking into acquiring Moki's after seeing mine run. Don't get me wrong, I own several O.S. engines and love them all, but these Moki's are just darn good engines. My 2 cents!
