I have used many RC Flight Simulators.
Of Simulators available for purchase I now have 3, but only use two; RealFlight G5.5 and Phoenix

RealFlight is a good simulator, however Phoenix is much better!

I have the newest versions of both. I always prefer to purchase the versions that include the controller.

One exceptional advantage in purchasing Phoenix Flight Simulator is all upgrades, updates, etc are free!

That alone makes Phoenix Flight Simulator the best all around deal.


If you want a simulator that is as close to being on the field flying your Helicopter or Airplane then Phoenix is the current best available.

Update: My System; HP Pavilion Elite 380T, I7 930 2.80GHZ, ATI Radeon HD 5570 Graphics.
May not be the absolute best graphics card available but it pleases me.

As for my knowledge of free updates, I have to admit that I have been trusting what I have been told.

It would be wise to verify that all improvement to Phoenix are FREE!
If I am mistaken, then I have made a mistake in not researching as carefully as would be best.
Still, I like the performance of Phoenix better than RealFlight.
That in no way says RealFlight is not good. RealFlight is very good with recent improvements.
I just feel that Phoenix is still better.

I encourage you reading this, to try your best to actually find a way to actually try both simulators, before making your purchase.

Good Luck and happy flying. Whichever choice you make, you will be getting one of the best available. In my opinion.

I have to disagree. RealFlight's recomended specs may have been top of the line from 5 years ago, but not anymore. A $35 GeForce 8400 vid card would exceed the specs:

The reason I decided against RealFlight was the requirement to alter a security setting to get it to run and that you need online activation.

Status: offline 		Yes. And if your looking to replace a video card a small incremental price increase will get you a much better card now-a-days.

The updates over the last two years have been free... but there are charges for major revisions.

FSOne wants $130.00 for their upgrade. Aerofly wants over $150.00, and Realflight charged only $80.00 for the 3.5 to 5.5 upgrade path ( a real bargain considering you got the add-ons free too plus all of the enhancements. ).

Status: offline 		I am looking for a simulator to help with pattern practise. When looking at the planes that G5.5 comes with I don't see any pattern planes listed at all.
Can someone please advise me what is the best simulator for pattern practise?

Both Phoenix and RealFlight as well as other possible mentionables, have a few pattern planes to choose from.

So in my opinion either have such planes as an option.

I would encourage you to download a demo and or try a version made available to test in-store or at a friends.
It is the only real way to fully confirm your preference before you buy.

Second hand views are always second hand and may never replace your conclusion.

Status: offline 		When I first started flying heli's on realflight simulator I would be so nervous that I would make the wrong input which crashed it instantly. In the beginning it might be best to go to settings in the simulator menue and set it to 25% speed. Do some repetition of making the correct inputs consistently before you up the speed. The idea is that you are reinforcing the desired response and not all those mistakes that you make at full speed. I learned this from practising scales on the guitar and it works on simulator flying as well.

  I just received my a Phoenix 3.0 with out the DX5. It install without problem and system handle it fine. But I'm having problem with the connection with the DX6i going in and out, What do I need to do to fix?

Status: offline 		What do you mean connection. Do you have a USB trainer cable, and a connection for it on the DX6i? On the DX7, I defined a new model for Phoenix. I don't turn on the transmitter. Plugging in the cable turns the transmitter on automatically.

  I have the USB trainer cable connected to the PC and the transmiter trainer jack of DX6i. It automaticaly turn on when you plug in the jack, but it keeps cutting out without the jack physicaly unplug.

Where can I get a charger so I dont have to removed the battery?

Status: offline 		If I turn on the power on the Transmitter (DX7) I get low battery warning. I have to leave the power switch on the OFF position. I don`t know about the DX6i.

  You should have no problem with that Super Cub. It is wonderfully easy to fly and all you have to do to land it is point it at the runway and back off the throttle until it starts to descend. As long as you keep the rate of descent under control it will almost land itself. You will want to gradually pull back on the elevator as it gets near the ground to make the descent very shallow and then gradually pull back on the throttle as well. It is VERY much like it is in the simulator. About the only way to crash it is to hold the rudder way over to the side which will cause it to spin in. But if you just let go of the the stick and give it more throttle it will almost imediatelly recover all by itself. Try that in the simulator and see what happens. Just don't do that too close to the ground or it may not have time to recover. It's a great first plane!

I have Phoenix and I have not seen an option to use a joystick. Phoenix copy protection lets you make copies of the disc and install on multiple computers, but you have to use their USB cable. Be sure you have a compatible transmitter.

Status: offline 		I've had Realflight 3.0-4.0. The one thing I despise about RF, is the UNREALISTIC ENGINE PERFORMANCE built into the motors, especially OS Motors. Since when will a 46fx run 16,000 rpms with an 11x6 or 11x7 APC? or a DA-50 Gas engine run 30,000 RPMs? BALONEY!! to put it nicely. "Get what you pay for?" you say? I don't see that I got it.

Status: offline 		I have used Real Flight for both Heli and airplanes. After multiple hours of use, I always had the same feeling that it wasn't exactly how the plane/heli would fly for real. Heck, never used a heli, jumped on and in less then 3 mins I was hovering one. 


Now for Phoenix. When I use it, I get a feeling that this is exactly how the real plane would handle and feel. I have a couple of them that is in the sim and belive me, it's damm close. AS for heli's, I find it much more of a challenge to hover and fly.  To me, I belive without a doubt that Phoenix is far better. Plus free downloads and you can evern submit your planes and fields to be added. Realflight, you have to keep throwing out more and more money for upgrades. 

and the added bonus to Phoenix, you can get the version that comes with a Spektrum DX5 2.4 transmitter that you can use on real planes.

Status: offline 		There are reality settings which would tame down helis. Change to advanced to get a better feel (not perfect by any means). I can hover a heli upside down in either simulator, but with my 450 and 500, I still find it hard. Helis don't hover long without stick movements even with the best setup.

Status: offline 		after trying both sims I went with Phoenix it felt right , and it came with a spektrum DX5e ,  i got it loaded on 3 computers  but you got to use the cable it came with thas't the program key . it plugs into my Aurora 9,  i will will need to get and adapter for my Airtroics stylus, the planes react like at the field tip stalls and all,   is it fun?  yes .
