How do you guys transport your Ultra Flashes? (Mainly the fuselage) I am going to build something... Perhaps some sort of cradle that will double as a stand for assembly and disassembly at the field. My UF will be transported in a trailer with lots of room. The major thing I am concerned about is making sure the paint does not wear or scuff when the trailer is rolling down a bumpy road. Pictures would be nice!

Thanks.

I just lay mine on foam in the trailer and use the flat bungee cords.

Just need to make sure the aft end of the fuselage is not resting on the elevator control horns. If so, you will probably cause delamination in the horizontal stab.

Gus

I simply use a wooden storage box bolted to the bottom of the trailer. I also made a cradle with white insulating foam (found at building materials stores). The cradle is removable so that I can insert any other shape for different planes. I secure it with a couple of belts. Just check the pictures.

Hi,

did anybody flown the UF with the saddle tanks?

I am wondering if you have to check the CG with the tanks or if you can easily fuel and fly?

Best regards

Philip

Just fuel and fly Philip, no issues that I can see.

Had a great weekend at Wangaratta Jets in OZ over the weekend.

I know there is some debate about speed in prior posts, however my UF can do 400 kmph.

Here is a screen shot of my GPS reading Multiplex set for Spacial 3D max reading and horizontal max GPS speed. You can see they are very close readings so it is ACCURATE.

Note I did not fly to get a max reading, was just having fun!!!!

Great - your UF can do 240 MPH in Australia. But, the fact is, we have an AMA restriction of 200 mph in the US and we need to adhere to that rule for a lot of really good reasons, not the least of which is the FAA's scrutiny of our hobby here. Anyone who ignores the AMA restriction and excedes it is jeopardizing this wonderful hobby for everyone, and that is unacceptable.
Regards,
Gus

Gus,

Not debating your governing body rules AMA, rather confirming the UF can reach 400 kmph plus quite easily!

This should satisfy some of the skeptics out there!

Looks about right for a Merlin 140.

How do the AMA/FAA enforce this rule?

Rob.

To be honest, I don't know if the AMA or FAA attend jet fly-ins to monitor the airspeed of the jets. But given the FAA's interest in 'unmanned aerial systems', we don't want to give them any reason to get more involved in our hobby.
Regards,
Gus

Rob

I usually run my fuse tank down so that it shows 15-18mm of fuel at the front sitting on the deck, I can run lower with minimal air in the header, but it comes down to the fact I do very few long verticals in the last minute and a half of the flight, loops and 8's are fine as fuel is under G. I have never had more than a tiny bit of air in my header using the kit tank set up

Thanks Dave, this is my tank after a flight, probably a little on the safe side?

I'm building one with saddle tanks. I plan on running the main to the saddles through a "y"so the main feeds first. The saddles will "y" to the uat. Thoughts?
