I'm trying to come up with a set of graphics for my green ultra flash. Any one put a vinyl over the hinge line on the rudder? Does it foul up the movement on the rudder or tear up the vinyl? Just curious....

Yeah that's exactly what I had planned. Didn't know if it messed up the vinyl where the rudder slid underneath the lip on the vert stab. Looks like its not a problem. Thanks for posting the pic.

Are you talking about the long tail cone on the JB-130? What gap do Behotec recommend in their instructions? Or do you mean the mount position on the rails? Use a JetCat mount??

With the behotec engine you can have alomst all the tail cone inside the tail pipe with no problem.
So it is OK to push the engine back to fit.

I have a huge vinyl sticker on my vertical stab/rudder. I cut it on the hinge line on the open side, did not do anything on the hinge side. Works perfect and has not come up yet and I am at 312 flights....

Get them to do a colour substitution on parts of it and get some black into the mix and I reckon that would "man it up a bit".... Might not look bad after all!

Jamie

I think its one of the best colours yet, really suits the model...I've ordered a set of Purple bags for it too! That and Claire's Purple flying jacket she just ordered, we are going to have pink/purple overload soon at the meetings!
Thinking about it...Nicky is right, pink would be good for you, dispell some of the navy myths

Hello everyone, finally I'm getting an UF myself! But I found a strange issue - no one seems to have 70mm air power wheels, so what kind of wheels are you using in your Flashes?
The nose one is usually 66mm, that's I know, but what is the maximum diameter for the mains? 3&1/4" i.e. 83mm is fine? Or is it too large?
Kirill.

Thanks a lot, I will order 3 1/4 inch!

2 Mavrik! I tried making a fuse bag myself a number of times, but the best there is - a sleeping bag! Current fuse protection offered by some manufacturers is a simple slide-on piece of cloth to protect the canopy or the bottom of the fuse. Sleeping bags are perfect, I sewed two big ones together to make a fuse protection for the big 2.5 Futura!

So my advise is to get another sleeping bag for kids and leave this for the jet - it probably smells with kerosene now anyway

Guys I need help with the CG location on the UF, we just finished mine, using a Jet Central Chetaa and no paint or extras on the nose to add unecessary weight. I did use the extra wing and saddle tanks. My understand of the manual is that the starting point is from the wing root, trailing edge. Or will it be from a different point? Is it further back? If its at the wing root it's VERY nose heavy, using the batteries all under the tank and still nose heavy.

As I understand it you are measuring from the wrong place. Measure rearwards from the forward most point of the wing i.e. the flat face where the 2x carbon location pegs are, (wing/fuselage joint), CG should be 220-225mm back from this point.

That is the manual recommendation and where mine came out with saddle tanks(empty), wing tank(empty), uat (full), no nose weight, standard size batts in the 2x pockets and gear up. Others may have adjusted for personal taste after flying but it's a good starting point.

Rob.

Many thanks Rob!! I will measure right away, I was doing it backwards.

Cheers!

I just received a new Ultra Flash and noticed a structural material change in the wing and stabs. It appears CARF has switched from laminated balsa wood to the green laminated foam like Tomahawk Design. Nice to know they keep improving their products.

Im not sure foam is a structural improvement. It may be lighter, cheaper, and easier to build with but foam is not a structurally better material than balsa. It has to do with compressibility, and memory.

The balsa was too inconsistent, so they decided to switch.

Balsa cored structures can be affected by humidity and if the skin is compromised problems develop later- especially if moisture, fuel or oil gets in. I still think it is a good move by CARF.
