Status: offline 		I get asked a lot about fitting canopy glass, everyone has their own method. Mine is to clean up the frame to be constant thickness, inc the part where the tape is on the joint. Then I trim the canopy glass as shown earlier. Then you must make the first attachment with the canopy frame on the fuselage to keep a good fit. I use ZAP Slow (yellow) and a foam safe kicker which stops misting. I then tack the centre only front and back. This sets the frame gap. With this dry I take the frame off and roll/push the glass around its curve in the centre, where the hoop is and another single tack of CA is placed and kicked either side. These photos (difficult to take) show the glass with just four drops of CA holding it in place. If you are out of alignment you can break the joint and adjust. With this stage complete I add a few more tacks and then squeeze ZAP56 canopy glue around the edge and that's it!

I am thinking of fitting a smoke system to my ultra flash and was going to put a couple of 20oz Dubro tanks on either side of the fuse where the inlet joiner would have been as I have seen some others do. I am just a little worried about restricted air flow to the turbine with that setup. I was going to fit a jetcat smoke pump to the jet.

Any comments or tips??

On my Original I have 2 Dubro 24oz tanks, a Rhino for the turbine, and apoox 75 flights and have never had a problem with mine what so ever

Status: offline 		I had installed a 40oz dubro tank in the front bay, fits nicely behind the steering servo with an equipment tray on top for the rx, ecu and valve. I mounted two small air tanks beside the turbine / inlet joiner and am able to retain the joiner and bypass. I was able to use the wing tank for smoke and also mounted the pump in the wing making hook up simple.

Finally ordered my Ultra Flash. Very excited

Decided to go with the Thunderbirds scheme. Should look a bit like Colins one that he showed in an earlier post -



Going to put a Kingtech K-140 in the old girl. From all reports they seem to be a good engine. Have allready ordered it so I guess I will find out.

Status: offline 		Congratulations Paul!! Mine is a somewhat modified Thunderbirds scheme, with some of the standard marking removed, and I've ordered a set of custom decals to go on it, so it looks a little bare in the above photo. The stock Thunderbirds scheme looks great as is I think though.

I started on my build tonight actually - got the stabs largely finished. I'll post some more photos once I've got the decals on it.

I've no direct experience with the Kingtech, but from what I've heard they are pretty good. Not quite up there with Jetcat in terms of build quality, but more power apparently. I'm putting a JetCentral Cheetah in mine.

Status: offline 		My Ultra Flash as been thrown in at the deep end it seems. Three international events back to back have seen it do a boot full of flying. It's unusual for me to log this many flights on a new sports jet back to back as I have done with the flash, but the truth is that i really do love this model.
I have to admit to not being the biggest fan of the old straight wing flash. I find the Ultra to be in a league apart. So much smoother and precise, with less coupling yet still able to slow down to a decent slow speed and operate out of a small grass strip. I have played about quite a bit with the set up untilI found one that suits me. I found it was easy to get in a situation where you had too much flap, and the model became a little pitch sensitive as it slowed down. I also thought that with a little too much flap it could dump too much lift and drop that last bit onto its gear instead of flying onto them. I reduced my flap and ran a little crow to aid the slowing down. I now find that i can do one of my tight descending circuits to land ( Usually within tight proximity to the landing point) and slow down even despite the step decent. Yet still not gain too much speed when I level out to flare for touch down, and best of all the model keeps flying right up till it touches down.
I found that I had to run really quite a large amount of down elevator with full flap and crow in order to stop it ballooning. Much more than I expected.
I also found the model rolled so much better ( Especially fast twinkle rolls) with Ail differential. ( 25% more up than down on each aileron worked for me)
The model is so strong and resilient. I think i managed to log over 15 flights with it this past weekend, and these included some pretty hard flying. A spanner nor wrench went near the model all weekend! The more I fly it the more I love it. I will try to get some measurements on my surfaces when the van is unloaded ( Not sure when I will have the energy for that as I am beat right now) Till then, I took some photos while I was in Finland last week of the flap/ ail and elv set up that I run for landing.

Oh yeah,, mine has CROW on it as well and it works FANTASTIC!!!! Don't be afraid of the crow !!!! Must be a grass euro thing or something

Status: offline 		Not afraid of it...just don't need it on mine! higher weight is probably a factor, all I see with less flap is more lift and the raised ailerons needed to re add drag.
There is no such thing as a correct set up, its what works for you.

Status: offline 		Started the build on my UF yesterday. I'm still finishing off my CARF Extra 2.1, but I couldn't wait

If anyone has any ideas about putting Futaba servos in the stab, forget it. When they say 19mm max servo thickness, they mean it! I ended up using 8411's and even they required reshaping of the metal servo mounts and judicious sanding of the inside of the stab to get the servo panel to sit flush. I'll be using BLS155's everywhere else. Overkill I know, and call me paranoid (and maybe just lucky), but by overkilling on the servos I've never had a single in flight servo failure.

Anyway, here's my stab... the only thing different from standard is I'm using machined clevises I got from Intairco. 3mm pin through the horn secured by an e-clip. Zero slop, stronger and more secure.

1: anyone here using the Tam pipe ? I see that the tam pipe fits OVER the carbon bellmouth whereas the CARF pipe fits INSIDE the carbon bellmouth. Has anyone had head / flame damage on the carbon belmoth with it being inside the pipe ?

2: Smoke ... shere are you guys fitting your smoke tanks? im thinking of 2 16oz on the sides of the intake ducting feeding a 24 oz hopper under the cockpit ..

3: using the Pro Link gear, has anyone needed to trim any strut lengths to get the correct on-the-ground incidence ?

Status: offline 		Wojtek, I have tam's pipe and I have zero issues after 50+ flights. For smoke, I am using 2 24oz dubro tanks set up just like phjoker. I am using Pro Link struts/gear and had to add washers in the retracts (mains) to extend them by a few mm. Otherwise the tires would not go into the wells.

Is the red the same red for this scheme and is the paint single stage with clear in it?
