I can give you the specs of the prototype, 92" span, 86" length, weight about 24 pounds. Engine rec is ZDZ-80, 3w75, 3w85 twin, BME 102, etc.

However, (really big however) This is an announcement I wanted to get out to people.

Due to the fact that the 30% Extra as currently designed cannot be shipped by UPS, the factory is working on a redesign with a fiberglass fuselage and a removable motor box. This will make it a bit lighter and it will fit in a UPS legal box.

Our product release schedule has been shuffled as a result, and the next planes to come out will be a 28% Edge 540T followed by a 28% Extra. Both 84" span, weight 15-17 pounds, designed for 50cc gas, very large glow, or a G62.

THe 28% Extra will have the graphic scheme that won the design contest.

The 30% Extra probably will not be available this year, sorry.

Yes, they will do well with those engines. The Edge has more wing area (1390" ) than a truly scale plane of this size would, so it can carry more weight . At 17 lbs. it has a 28 oz. wing loading. That 17 lbs (exactly 17) is the flying weight of the prototype with a G62.

A 46cc what?

In theory 46cc should be plenty, but without knowing the brand name I couldn't say for sure.

VinceL -> 28% Edge ??!!! (7/30/2003 7:37:25 PM)

28% Edge??!!!

I've always built my big airplanes from kits but I have been very tempted by the Wild Hare line. Positive comments and good prices have always had my attention. Now I'm really paying attention, any feeling for when the Edge will be available?

P-51B -> Tom : New Extra 30% specs.? (7/30/2003 7:41:23 PM)

The 28% edge sounds interesting!

The production run has begun, that usually takes about 6-8 weeks. Then ocean freight takes 28-30 days, so I figure they will be here 1 November. Allow another 2 weeks for unanticipated delays.

The introductory price for this plane will be $399! Limited quantities at that price.

Tom,

Now you really have my attention, I don't see anything on your web site about the new airplane. I would consider reserving one, are you taking reservations now or waiting for them to arrive?

rctom -> Tom : New Extra 30% specs.? (7/31/2003 3:50:20 AM)

Try the site now, there are a few pictures of the prototype and a graphic of the covering scheme.

More pics and copy will be available in the next day or two, keep an eye on it.

I will be happy to take firm orders for a place in the delivery queue at the introductory price of $399.

It's hard to say without some performance specs, but 46cc should be plenty.

mwick -> Tom : New Extra 30% specs.? (8/8/2003 2:28:07 AM)

Web site says 84" wing, 65" fuse including spinner. Seems pretty short. Is this a typo? maybe 75" including spinner? This plane looks great and is climbing the list fast, as the next project.

Thanks
Mike

Fixed Wing -> RE: Tom : New Extra 30% specs.? (9/22/2003 2:17:57 AM)

Tom, how about kitting an ARF of a Yak or Sukhoi in the 33% size range?

ml3456-RCU -> RE: Tom : New Extra 30% specs.? (9/23/2003 3:57:11 AM)

Aeroworks does this already for almost twice the price of an ARF!

I assume you mean bring out an ARF. It's something to think about. There's nothing in that size now.

Volfy -> RE: Tom : New Extra 30% specs.? (9/23/2003 9:40:18 AM)

Tom, I think these new 28%-30% ARFs (the Edge been the first) you're introducing are what the market sorely needs. There are already plenty of 1/4 and 1/3 scale aircrafts, but not really a whole lot in between. The popular 45-55cc gassers are really too large for 1/4scale aerobats, and most folks are stuffing 100cc in the 33% ones.

Designing with the G62 in mind is an excellent idea. This engine enjoys a very good price point advantage compared to other gassers both smaller and larger than it. Even when one adds a CH ignition to it like I did, it is still very inexpensive for a 62cc. I was going to put mine in a Lanier 30% Edge, but I now think your 28% edge is a much better fit.

It will be in early spring I think, probably same price as` the Edge, $399. hOWEVER IT'S NOT A 330, it will be an Extra 300 special, which is a 2 place version of the original mid wing 300.

Pretty much the same as the Edge but with tapered leading Edge, different cowl, and different color scheme.

The Edge is a nice stable platform, we're just changing the wings because some people prefer the way an Extra flies.
