I finally got the bugs worked out of my Whiplash, so I thought.. Had one VERY fast and successful flight... Man did it scream.. That Jett FIRE BSE 50 was humming Well, on flight #3, everything was fine.. till I did a couple quick rolls to the left.. Something didn't feel quite right I recovered, so I declared an emergency landing... Upon turning in to final, it went staight down rolling to the right.. probably still doing somewhere between 75 and 100 when it hit the soft ground.

(Bare in mind that the Whiplash is a strong airplane... all composite. ) We got to the wreckage and the only damage was that the motor mounts snapped off right before the LE of the wing.. so about 10 -30 minutes of repair and it'll be RTF again, as long as the engine is fine... It augered the engine about 9"-12", we dug it out for quite some time... but there were no rocks in the field.. just muddy (thank God!!) I'm thinking that the engine is fine (thank God)...

What happened was that the servo arm screw backed out of the right elevon servo (hitec digital servo with metal gears)... Lesson learned.. use locktight on the servo arm screw as well on these airplanes!!!!!!!!!!!! it was tight before launch.. I checked it all over!!

The airplane's first flight didn't have enough elevon throw, so I couldn't pull it level after turning for a final when the engine quit... so it hit a thorn tree head on.... The branches were about 2-3" thick, and you could see it move when it hit... Didn't scratch a thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, I wish all my planks were this sturdy!!!

I can certainly agree that whiplashes are extremely strong.A buddy here at the field has one..He was doing a low high speed pass in front of him (approx.140mph) then another guy got a lil' too close with his mustang. The whiplash drastically dipped below him to avoid a headon collision, which in essence was too low.He smacked the paved runway at full bore(I mean hit hard) then bounced back off sending him outta control for approx. 100 yards .He managed to coast it down & upon retrieving his plane the only thing that happened was it broke the engine rails off(engine was hanging) and had a few cracks here & there.Very easily fixable.A very strong plane w/o a doubt & one hell of a high speed rollrate

Steve

If you look at the Extreme Speed Prop Planes section, Aerojet models sponsors that forum.. and they're the makers of the Whiplash

Just tore my BSE FIRE 50 apart.. looks 100% fine to me.. no damage to the engine thank goodness

Thanks for the info. It seems like they can be something close to the excitement of a jet, well maybe. Anyway, they seem really neat and they are a lot cheaper and less complex than jets for us "go fast" guys. I have an old Super Tigre .61 laying around, maybe I should try finding a home for that with something like this.

Looks good. I like the idea of the clear tank. That way you can see if you need to land while flying. Well, that's if you can slow it down.

LOL.. that Jett FIRE BSE 50 sucks that tank dry after about 9 or 10 passes I didn't realize it till I made a diving pass across the runway on flight 2 and the engine almost flamed out till I pulled some positive g's to get the fuel in the clunk again It goes VERY fast.. fuel and speed that is

It's RTF again..about 20 minutes of fixing.. I drilled just a little smaller than 1/4" hole from the front of the mount, about 3 inches deep, and epoxied in some carbon fibre push rods in the holes, and put some fully threaded 2-56 rods inside of that... so it's pretty sturdy again... I can pick the whole thing and wave it around by the mounts alone.. so I'm thinking it's just as strong as before

Going to locktight those servo arm screws in now

Glad to hear the plane is going to be okay. Just have someone else start it for you the first few times to make sure that motors staying on.
