Accident occurred : Sunday, July 20, 2003 at ST. THOMAS, VI
Aircraft : World Models 'Super Stunts .40'
Engine : OS .46FX
Pilot: "patches"
Injuries: 1, nonfatal.

On July 20, at approximately 1200 atlantic standard time, a World Models Super Stunts .40 nonregistered homebuilt airplane was damaged following impact with terrain in St. Thomas, VI. The private pilot was not injured. The pilot was operating the airplane under Title 14 CFR Part 103. Visual meteorological conditions with winds in excess of 10 knots prevailed for the personal flight that originated from Simón Pierre Field approximately 15 minutes before the accident. No flight plan had been filed.

After a normal landing the main landing gear collapsed on rollout. Initial examination of the airplane revealed the right main landing gear attachment bolt had sheared off. Examination of the components by the STRCASB laboratory revealed the builder applied CA adhesive on the internal surface of the radius area between the threads and the flange before the nylon bolts were installed. The adhesive leached through the bolts, causing them to become brittle. The resulting stress cycling cracked the bolts, and caused the subsequent detachment and collapse of the main landing gear.

The St. Thomas R/C Association Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
