Hi all!

A quick post between other recreating activities!!

Brian

FUN STUFF!

That was cool Brian.  www.rcuniverse.com="" src="" />  Enjoy your time off.

A tip about battery care tho.  Try to time your flights.  If you can see you're losing headspeed than its probably already over-discharged and the pack is damaged.   Try not to use  more than 80% capacity of the pack.  70% is even better and this will improve the life of the battery.

Thanx noob,

I usually flip the timer but forgot.

Where are YOU flyin'???

I'm flyin' here!!

b

Hey Brian. I usually fly over at Turkey Lake Park.  Its close to my house.    But it would be cool to get a fly in sometime.

Hey again Tony,

You've certainly got a charming backyard with all the different coloured folage during the fall season mate! And you really make nose-in look simple!!

For those interested, some parts that I ordered have arrived from HongKong - but I am still awaiting others before I can also try my hand at building (then crashing probably ) a 450 of my own

Peter
P.S. Which lipos do you guys use and recommend??

The first hover was a bit scary. I was thinking, "Don't crash on cam, don't crash on cam" and panicked a bit. Second one was pretty smooth though. My throttle is a little notchy in the video. I had the tension screw tightened down too much so it was jerking instead of being smooth.

Those were my 3rd and 4th nose in attempts. Spent quite a bit of time on Phoenix practicing for them.

Keep up with me.........perhaps in early November when I slow down from traveling we can get up at the "Field" !

Great nose in Tony.....I see you have a wood shed where you presumably get tuned up by the wifey!

Howdy Brian,

Cool vid mate & educational as always. Now for the traditional observations:

1) Nice circles
2) What was the bird you spooked half way through? If you were in the UK it would almost certainly be a heron - You should have given chase
3) So a muffed circle is called a Simon! humph!
4) Why is the water blue?
5) The ending was not so creepy

Enjoy your camping trip! Best wishes

Simon

It was a red shoulded hawk Simon!

Hey again Tony,

I practice the T-Rex 600 every few nights on Clearview so when I finally scrap together the parts (waiting is killing me ) & build my own 450 - I don't totally embarrass myself

Peter
P.S. The 600 seems a lot more flyable than the 450s on Clearview

Larger helicopters are easier to handle because of their mass. In the sim I prefer .90 size scale choppers over just about anything else for easy flying.

Hi Fliers!

Kinda been busy recreating but manage to get one pack a day!

Heading off for yet more recreating for 4 days and no flying!

Perhaps in a week I can get some beach flying on my next adventure!

Hope all is well in your worlds!

Howdy Brian,

Have a great holiday(s) (jammy b*gger!)

All, a couple more vids   Got to say nothing too adventurous here just me enjoying some therapeutic flying! Only trouble was that the rain tried hard to spoil things but I was not going to be denied some Saturday afternoon flying. You can hear the rain drops landing on the cam later in the vid.  I was pleased that the onboard cam was smooth.

Best to all!

Simon

PS.  I edited out the middle of these vids as a friend kept disturbing me lol

Hiya Kidz!!!

Got to slip in a flight this pm right at sunset!

Just before I went out I replaced the main gear set with a new one. I have been hearing the sound of bearing failure and have been suspecting the one way bearing.

My suspicions were confirmed! Apparently the ole Hobby King one way bearing lasts a paltry 200 +/- flights!

Got to spend a few minutes on the Terror Pigeon and reinstalled the flybars weights so it will be as docile as the Thunder Chicken when it comes to nose in!

Mebbe in the morning I can slip in a few more flights before off to camping trip #2!

Lastly, I received the sim package on Tony's recommendation and look forward to spending time on Phoenix. I just don't know when!!

Attached is a photo of the package as it arrived to me!

Best to ya!

Brian

Hey guys..

Had a great day flying today, flying literally all day.. managed 36 flights between my two 450 clones..

I'm really loving them..

I have upped the rotor RPM to around 3200 now and removed the flybar weights on both.. WOW what nimble little buggers they are now!

2 things I learned today..

1. If an ant crawls into your eye under the sunglasses and starts biting you... ignore it... be a MAN and accept the pain.. your heli is too valuable to risk.... ( I landed my heli first then killed that nasty little sucker!)

2. If a Magpie swoops and attacks you from the behind hope that you are not in the middle of landing (I was lucky.. I was at 30 feet and there was plenty of room to recover from the "unexpected" control inputs caused by acts of self defense...

Just wanted to post something I noticed today for you Peter, make sure you loctite each and every nut and bolt.. I thought I had done so but after todays flying I noticed I must have missed one and yes, it was gone..

Now fixed and loctited...

Also something I just did yesterday, I used hot glue to strengthen the aerials where they exit the RX... I was worried they would end up breaking from vibrating in the airflow..

Pic below..

I would never trust a manufacter to do the loc tite on my heli.   Good catch Rob.   They never put any grease on the thrust bearings either so make sure you take the head apart and pack some in.  Putting some scotch tape around the boom where it mounts will also keep the boom from sliding in and making your belt loose.

I have probably built at least ten to twelve 450's.

Rob.  You should remount your esc.   I have crashed a few times where the sharp metal frame will cut into the esc wires.

Hi All,

After flying in the rain last Saturday, Sunday was much better save for a frost!

Flying this weekend is looking somewhat doubtful but you never know!

Thanks Noob,  good advice.. I will remount it today..

I have had 5 orders to build these helis for friends, It looks like I will be starting a production line soon, so all the tips and advice are greatly appreciated...

Cheers.

EDIT.. have now put hot glue around that part of the frame and secured the wires so there is NO contact with metal at all..

Thanks again..

Peter,

Since I'm pretty proud of it, here's my 450 so you can see how I ran my wiring. Notice that my 450 has coaxial parts on it?

Hey barak1001, nice pics.. you did a very neat job of the wiring..

The only thing I noticed is that your RX aerials are mounted directly 180 degrees apart?  This probably won't matter at short range but I understand they will work better if angled 90 degrees apart..

Just another question,,, when you click on one of your photos above and go through all of the photos there are some pictures of a heli with a green military canopy..

That just looks AWESOME.... could you please tell me where you got that canopy.. it is exactly what I have been looking for..

Cheers

PS.. tell me if you'd prefer me to remove your photo from my post... Its the best looking 450 I have ever seen!

EDIT.. Just did some Google searching.. is it the "Pro-line Attack Helicopter canopy"?  Did you get a model for the 450 or are you using the Mini Titan canopy (they are available right now on Ebay..)

The only way to do my antenna 90 degrees would be to point the one directly at the motor, which would probably be worse than having it turned to the side I think.

The canopy in question is a proline attack for a 450. They are no longer made, but if you're lucky you can find them online. They are made from thick lexan and are almost impossible to damage in a crash. The only down side is that in order to paint it flat (so it looks military and isn't shiny), you have to paint the outside with flat paint. I wound up using a base coat of white polycarbonate and then used brush on water based acrylic after that.

You can order them pre-painted, but I chose to buy an unpainted one and do it myself.

Thanks again.. I'll try to track one down..

What I did with my spektrum aerials is just angle both of of them forward a few degrees.. you can see it in the above pics.

But these radios have several kilometers of range and my helis never get further away than about 100 meters, so I'm sure aerial orientation is not so critical anyway..
