Default The Witch Project

Every year around Halloween I get to thinking how cool it would be to have something like "Wilga The Witch" from Flying Thingz, but Wilga is powered by a 60-size glow engine, which makes it noisey and limits it to being flown at a flying field.

I wanted something that looked more realistic (less comical) and that would be quiet and could be flown in public places - After all, what good is it to have something cool that no one could see?

Last August, I found myself with some spare time on my hands (which is rare for a product reviewer) so I decided to start doing some testing. I researched Rogolla wings, designed and built a few Prototypes, and did some flight testing.

After 3 prototypes, which tested various wing sizes, angles of attack, thrust lines, etcetera, it was time to add the witch's body. The 4th prototype flew well, but needed more control authority, so larger tail surfaces were added and I made her head turn to act as a forward rudder.

Here is the result. The next (hopefully final) version will be all black.

Enjoy!

Very cool! I don't think you could carry much of a payload but it would be awesome if the witch could drop some candy for the kids.

What no snap rolls, or inverted flybys. How is that any fun.

Very cool, I am sure it will be a hit flying around the neighborhood at dusk on halloween.

That is soooo cool, Mike. Yeah, if the plans were available that would be great. I can see me flying that round the super-market near my house.. the kids would go WILD!!!!

It would be really cool for Halloween night if there were some white LED's spread around the fuselage and wing so it would light up the witch as she flew! That would mean another battery of some kind but it is a novel idea.

Nice Job!

I modeled it after my ex Mother-in-Law - Although truthfully, that is being very unkind to witches!

That was the original plan, but now I'm driving my dad back to Florida for the winter and I'll be stopping to see my son in N.Carolina next weekend, so I will not be home for Halloween. [&o]

The good news is, I get to see my grandsons for Halloween!

Hello MinnFlyer.

Halloween is coming up shortly. Will you be flying her Halloween this year? Where are the plans available? Or are they?

Mooney,
Not sure if you heard this, but Minnflyer is no longer with us. He passed away suddenly back in April of this year. It's been a while now and it still hurts for me just as much as when it happened. Mike was one of my best friends and will be severely missed.

Here are the links to the plans for his Witch Project

Hope this helps

Ken

Ken, Mike had sent me a more complete set of plans with instructions and a bill of laiding. These were lost when my old computer took a crash. Do you happen to have those? Or did Flying Things ever publish this witch? I have seen a lot of flying witches but Mikes was the best by far. I really wanted to build the witch and use all Mikes set up.
I think of Mike all the time and miss our chats. I miss grumping about things with him and was looking forward to his visit.
Gene
