I have the whole wing done up in Autocad, and made up a few of the wings via laser cut parts for the big Sterling Piper Tri-pacer. Very low numbered kit number as I remember. Not sure as to what you need here.

I believe the kit is "FS-1"

Built/flew one back in the early '70's...

I was looking through the forums when I saw your request. Do you still need a copy of the Tri-Pacer FS-1 kit plans? I have the untouched kit that I bought from Tower Hobbies in 1994.I can check a couple of copy places and get some price quotes for you.Your only cost would be for the print and mailing, probably in a tube. Please e-mail me at jame1945@msn.com
Regards, Jim

I have this kit NIB I could copy the plans for you. I will not send any copies until I have money order in hand because I've trusted one too many folks who aren't trustworthy after all! (Donnie W is one of them down there in Texas) Money orders are great because you can always complain to Uncle Sam is someone tries to defraud you! Uncle Sam doesn't like mail fraud! If interested you can PM. I also have a Sterling Mr.Mulligan kit.

I built a Big Tripacer from a Sterling kit and it was very heavy. If you are building from plans try to find the lightest wood you can get.

I also have the smaller .09 kit that I started several years ago and it sits in a big box with a 54" Quaker until I get another workshop area.

Aerowoof,

Thanks for sharing the Sterling Tripacer plans. A room mate of mine built the kit back in 1966 or 67 while we were stationed at

Travis AFB in Fairfield Ca. I don't think he ever flew it as it was quite heavy with old rc gear of the time. It looked real nice in green and white.

About the same time I soloed in a Piper Colt at a local off-base airfield. I always liked the short winged pipers.

Thanks again

Stan

Stan, I was stationed at Travis AFB from 1958-62 in the MATS 1501st CEMS Instrument & Autopilot Shop.

SAC had 27 B-36's when I got there and they soon updated to B-52's.

ADC had F-102's

MATS had C-97, C-124 & C-133

Base OPS had a C-45, C-54, Twin Cessnas and some T-33's.

The Aeromed Squadron had C-130's.

Dan,

I arrived at Travis in September 1965. Assigned to 1501st Airbase Gp. MATS was changed to MAC ( Military Airlift Command) the following year.

SAC had the B-52s by now but most of the other aircraft you mentioned were still there and flying. Brannif Airlines jets were present on the flight line

as they carried the troops over to Vietnam. Freight and other stuff went by military aircraft. The C141s arrived about 4 months before me and over the next

5 -10 years replaced most of the old prop transports. My job was to do base payroll checks for the 15k military and 4k civilians that worked on the base.

I also paid cash disbursements to 60 -70 returning Vietnam Vets being discharged through Travis daily. It was a terrific place to be stationed as it was about 50 miles to

San Francisco.

Stan,

I think Viet-Nam started around 1965 but before I got out in Feb '62 we had lost a C-124 in Laos. We all looked at each other and said "Where the hell is Laos?"

We also lost a C-133 in the Pacific just off the coast of San Francisco. They had it on radio and radar and it was there on one sweep and then gone on the next. Never did hear what happened to it.

My era was the Cold War and we were often on a 12 hr, 7 day schedule and on standby the other 12 hours. You couldn't leave the base and we often slept in the instrument shop with our duffle bags packed and ready to go. I was on a plane to go to the Bay of Pigs invasion and the Berlin Crisis but both missions were aborted at the last second.

We used to get a lot of Army, Navy and Marines through Travis on their way to the far east and they would find their way to our chow halls.

One day an Army Sgt was sitting at our table and he asked what was the occasion for all the fancy food. He said the Army Officers didn't get food that good.

I said "No special occasion, it's just Tuesday!"
