This happened last August in Brighton, Colorado. Call me rigid but I don't think it's a good idea for models to mix it up with full scales at the same time and place no matter who is in control, or perhaps not in control....you know, it's like, uhh, an accident waiting to happen...

You may have to scroll up a bit for the video:

I hope this comes through,

That's a discussion about what happened from the AMA website. Apparently someone thought it was OK to fly RC and full scale planes in the same place at the same time.

Bob

This was a stasgged event however it went badly wrong. Take notice of the fellow using the transceiver. He is talking to someone and that someone is the pilot in the biplane. Also take notice that the RC pilot positioned his 3D model at the extreme left side of the taxiway. That was done to provide a safety barrier between the planes and spectators who are to your right side of the RC pilot and his spotter. I have whitnessed other stupid things that bad boy 3D pilots do with there models but this is the worst. The other side of the coin is if this was accomplished as planned he would have been the hero of the event. All those involved in this stupidity, including the full scale pilot, should be otersized for there lack of judgement.

I own a Pitts and they are completely blind to see out of. The spotter was talking to the inbound pilot but failed to evaluate and react correctly. You would have to anticipate the consequences of a go around, I have over 12,000 hours and the Pitts is the only airplane I have had to do a go around because of a blown landing.. The reason the feds punished the Pitts pilot is because he is the only one they can go after, they could care less about who's fault it was. Not the rc pilots fault or the Pitts pilot but a failure on the part of the Spotter.

This was some time ago and the full scale pilots certificate was suspended for this.
