Sorry in advance for incoming wall of text... I've had one of these for a couple days and after reading 6 pages of posts, alots on my mind... I'm gana just cut and paste my most prudent question up front... I'm interesting in modding my Rally with aftermarket parts, but to my knowledge theyre kinda scattered about. How would i find a good list of parts that i can put in and interchange with my Rally? I've speculated, read, and been told that the slash and MERV parts fit, but i'm not willing to try it with out understanding all the differences and i've been told there ARE a few... now to begin my post... I notice not alot of people consider it for off road potential. I think that the model would do just fine TBH as long as you consider and remember that its not a 1/10th like in the nifty video some one posted of the (i think) heavily modified tamiya... I own the Ken Block edition and am running pretty much stock on gravel - the second worst terrain for the stock tires(slicks if you didnt know). First being grass... Heres the only issues i see thus far... While in gravel, the already slippery tires are just horrible, but not uncontrollable. I've got mini slash tires ordered at my LHS and i'm certain that it will fix that issue. If i'm right they should fit and are already designed for on/off road performance... Surprised no one discussed this while talking about tires. If it was brought up i apologies, and if i'm wrong please correct me before i waste my cash. The next i see is that the stock maximum ride height is perhaps too short for grass. The nose end will dig in and stop it pretty hard if it hits a dip or tall stuff, but looking at the schematic i believe theres a long plastic piece inside the suspension that is preventing it from extending all the way. I'm going to buy a SECOND set and remove them... If it works, great, but naturally faster, smoother conditions would require a lower ride and thats why i'll be using the spares so i wont have to rebuild them every time i wana switch. EDIT Problem 3, and probably the biggest one... Rocks are getting stuck into the servo saver (i think its called)... The little Y shaped bit that the servo push and pulls on? Rocks are getting crammed between the plate and the Y shaped plastic bit causing it to either reduce my steering, or bind up completely. Its like theres a PERFECT amount of space between the plate and steering mechanism for the smallest rocks to get into, about a 1mm gap i'd guess. Sometimes a big one will get in upfront, in the > bit and basically lock out my ability to turn that direction. This i'm clueless to fix. Lastly, theres something lame i've noticed (that happened with my old rc too) that rocks and sand get INSIDE the tire, causing a centrifugal effect. In 3 runs, its bad enough where the tires will vibrate VERY noticably, and i think its throwing the handling WAY off... Help? I dont wana remove and re-seat the tires... If i'm right again there a plastic piece in the "lid" of the shock that keeps it from compressing all the way. For jumps this would NEED to change, as even right now the body would slap the ground, and any one who's practiced in jumps knows thats a bad thing... Having it hit the end of the cap isnt the best thing, but i'd rather blow shocks then snap my chassis... I'm thinking a rubber O ring would help to cushion it abit and reduce damage. This thing should be able to handle the dirt like a pro, with the right tires and tunings. Its got a very wide wheel base (200mm some one measured if i read right) and very good travel on the suspension. The biggest problem is that it has to change to do what its named for... I've got some good experience with RC's... Especially drifting. I'm not a top notch pro, though i considered my car to be elite quality. I also happen to have built a very well tuned race spec RC... That being said, i know what each should feel like, and the Rally out of the box is a half assed combination of both... It does both and is actually good at neither, which is whats putting people off about it. Its most apparent when your trying to approach higher speeds. I'd describe it best as that it has traction, until it just doesnt, then you have none. The tires stick until they slip, and its very difficult to pull it back straight before you lose it... I run parallel at the moment because the way i see it, series would be high speed suicide with stock tires. Even with grip tires, the car sits too high as is to safely go 50mph, and dropping it would leave it soft and floppy, letting it throw side to side while turning... again bad for high speed... This being mentioned, can any one recommend a fix? I'm thinking of another, third set of suspension for high speed. and tweeking where the rod sits inside the shock body, then running hard springs... Maybe i'll run a shorter shaft all together if i can find one... I'll stop here since its like midnight and i could run on for hours in my half sleepy trance... Hope enough people skim it to offer reasonable feedback... Thanks.
