Texas Club 40 Racers. A CALL TO ACTION. The Nov.13 Georgetown race will be the last race in our area for 2010. So! Dust off the plane and put on two coats of wax; clean the engine and put in 10-15 drops of after run oil; and bolt on that killer fast-time prop you have stashed away. Let’s Race.

Our club has a new gas grill so gourmet food will be available. Let me know if you are coming so we can have enough food for all. rpetrinec@austin.rr.com

I won't be fielding a plane. Unfortunately I have not learned how to keep the wing attached to the fuselage when I go to full throttle with my SuperTiger 40 (with the secret prop selection). Maybe someone can help me improve the ARF construction. Then later, in the spring, I can see how the speed compares to all of your planes.

Also, I tend to fly off center, so I'll sometimes fly upwind where the other pilots are flying downwind. I'm not trying to be dastardly and intentionally creating a mid-air collision hazard, I'm just sloppy with the rapid turns. Maybe someone can tell me how to avoid over cooking the duration of the turn so that I don't cross the centerline. I can't wait to unleash this thing, but maybe I should race in a solo heat?

Mike let me know when you’re ready to build your next Sky Raider. I’ll show you what to do so they last until you crash. Fuel proofing and re-gluing loose joints are very important.

As for over cooking the turns, practice, practice, practice, and more practice. There is no magic pill.

will you be here for our race?

Bob,

I have re-attached the muffler with gasket sealant to prevent the oil seepage from the gap that damaged my firewall. I have reinforced the firewall and fuel-proofed it. I even epoxied the fuel tank in place to avoid seepage into the tank area.

My problem now is that the plane is so fast that the apparent wind due to forward motion is so forceful that it is difficult to keep the wing on the airplane! With my secret propeller selection there is no telling how fast this plane is flying now (200 mph+). First the monocote comes off then the balsa begins to shred. Maybe I should just race it at half throttle? (giggle) Anyway....

I'm staying in Taiwan until Nov 24, and I will sure miss the opportunity to race.

Jason, I’m happy the two of you will be there. It’s always fun to watch you guys race. You may even be in the same heat with each other and Jeff Large. Jeff has a new plane and engine that is going good.

See you on the 13th

Bob

I’m loving it. Keep it up. A great asset of Club 40 is the trash talk before the race. Just so you all know, I have been flying Hot Laps all week practicing going long at the poles so I don’t cut. 1 point is better then a 0.

Hay Skully, NO STOOL, and then we will be flying 4 lap heats. That’s as long as I can stand without getting dizzy.
