Well... I got bit again..... I was out at the field last Saturday and I was getting my Pizazz out to get it ready to fly... did my standard flight check... Check the voltage of the battery, check the control surface linkages for integrity, double check all control surface travel....

And up she went, full bore.....

Well, I did a few rolls some loops and hovered a little bit... On the down wind leg when turning up field... She stoped turning.... Tried to throttle it down... But nothing responded. Full radio failure.

A bunch of guys came out with me to pick up the pieces... Tangent: I really like it when guys come out with you to the crash site... Great moral support. I've crashed before, and no one even said a word.... That hurts...

Anyway one wing was totally shattered, the front half of the fuse was disentigrated. We collected the bits and headed back to the pitts. I checked the RX... Still in it's nice little foam home.... Unscathed. The engine looked a little rough, but it survived, without significant damage. Two servo's were totally stripped... But I think that happened durring the death and dismemberment on impact....

Plugged everthing up and did a range check.... 50 ft away and everything was still functional.. No twitching or anything. I even pulled the back off the radio and checked the antenna connections and battery connections. Everything seamed in order. Radio system is a Futaba Super 7 with r127 RX, std 600 mAh battery.

Man I hate it when you don't know what caused the problem. I'm guessing it was some kind of radio interferance. I don't no what do do with the radio equipment now... I'm not going to be comfortable using it again... Maybe I'll send it in to Futaba for service. Does anyone know how expensive this is?

Thanks for listening....

Good call......... Being a fairly new flyer, I try to give a little "pat on the back" to people who crash. I busted a nose wheel off of a trainer after I flaired, stalled and stuffed it into the ground. A guy (instructor) said, "good job, take his card away". Talk about hurt....

Good luck with your problem. Let us know if you figure out what it was.

Mike

PS Sorry about the Pizazz

Boy... what a ****!! I can't believe an instructor would say something like that!! Instructors are supposed to be ecouraging and supportive.

I've had simular experiences.... Not allot of fun when you are the brunt of someone's cruelty. They just do it to feel "big".... They are really showing how small they are.

Not going out to the crash site ?!?!? Now that's where I get all of my good pictures I try to beat the pilot out there so I can take a pic just before he gets out there and pitches a fit I know, I have no couth.

All joking aside, when one of us drops into the great abyss, we all drop what we are doing and go out and help "pick up the pieces." I bet it is a lonely walk to and from the crash site with no support with you. One I don't plan on taking anytime soon (knock on wood). At any rate, sorry to hear about your Pizzaz, but there are always more where that one came from.

Sounds like that instructor needs to have HIS card taken away. What an ass!

I witnessed my first crash last weekend. An older gentleman was firing up his Avistar (out of five planes at the field at the time, four were Avistars...) and I helped him get it started. After it was in the air a few minutes, my wife and I were watching it and we both noticed that he was getting pretty low to the ground while doing some rolls. I kept thinking, "Get some altitude!" Next thing we knew, it smacked right into a tree. Pieces went everywhere. He turned to look at the other flyers with a grimace on his face, then went to pick up the pieces. We left after about an hour and he still wasn't back yet. I felt sorry for him...

You cant let a flyer go out on his own, i think most of the reason for the others is morbid courisity, and yes, i go take pics, but it has to be done for the web site.. onist..
Also it takes more than one to carry all the bits back.
The pilot gets to give his account on the walk over and gets lots of eye witness accounts too. And lots of suggestions of what to do with bits, or next plane
Last year a plane went down in some gorse bushes and 4 of us searched for 2-3 hours trying to find it, no luck but it was found a week later.
