what kinda scope is on the 7?-i gotta 243 and im not sure if it matters what kinda scope i got, gettin the 243 out to 1000 yds would be a trick-but thats not what i bought it for-thats what i got the 308 for, but i dont have the scope yet-want a Nightforce 3.5-15x50 NXS-the scope on the 243 is a Leupold 3-9x40 and is a very solid scope but it only has 27 MOA of adjustment and i cant get out that far-i could put a set of 20MOA bases on it and probably come close but it doesnt have tac turrets on it so it would be a waste of time to me-ill just wait till i have the 110 MOA Nightforce set up on a 308 before i try somethin that far-the place i shoot is 1600 yds x 900 yards-dont think ill ever have the horsepower to shoot 1600 yds so i atta be good for life just about!

The description in the video says it's a Lepold 4-12x. A 243 is a sweet gun lil gun. We set the scope on one last year and it's mighty accurate. I'm not a gun, or scope expert but, the type of scope a person has does affect the guns range. Kinna hard to hit a target if you can't see it. The 308 is another nice rifle. I wouldn't wanna get hit by a 308, as it would be like getting hit by a mack truck at 500 mph.

the little Leupold 3-9x40 i got on my 243 would take me out to 1000 yds if it had the adjustment-the glass is good enough for me to see that far but if i want to zero any farther than 150 yards i would have to put 20 MOA bases on it,and the gun shoots so solid that i dont wanna change anything-i was on snipershide.com last night and there are guys handloading 243's and takin em to 1000 yards

found some 2-3/4" shells with number 6 shot in them in the same closet that the bullets where in. a few have cracks in them so i wont shoot those but i did shoot 2 that weren't cracked. the first one i didnt have a tight grip on so the barrel went up about 6 inches and the second one i had a good grip on so my shoulder took all the recoil. it didn't hurt but it did not feel good. i think a specific ground hogs's days are numbered...[>:]

if you can't handle low brass dont even think about shooting a real load through that gun maybe you better look into a 20 gauge

yes, a .410 has less kick .............but, .410 shells, even though they are smaller, they cost more than 20 or 12 gauge

do you know that a semi auto, or even a pump, has less recoil than a single shot break action?
the lighter the gun the harder it kicks usually .

This thread got My trigger finger itchin ( Call of duty wasn't cutting it..lol.) So I got My buddy to take Me along coon hunting tonight, A 22 rifle box full of bullets, 30 coon later and and 150$ in My pocket!, Him and His dad are licensed trappers, They get a lot of farmers calling them in to exterminate coons from the bush because either they destroy the corn fields or tare up the lines in a sugar bush, So they take the coons home, Skin them and sell the pelts for 25$ a pop!

LOL, I remember last year goose hunting My little cousin ( 16yrs old ) was using His dads Super black eagle 2 with 410 shells and didn't have it even close to his shoulder, He ended up pulling the trigger, And some how the butt came up, Got Him right in the nose and broke it!

My very fragile stepmother shoots 410, shouldnt be no problems there. But all that from a 20? Wow lol I own and regularly use a couple of different 12's, shot a 10. It all depends on how and where you hold it, if youre not doing it right you could feel discomfort from somethin so small as a .22

Exactly. I had a Remington 870 that kicked like a 20 gauge but yet I CURRENTLy own a *ahem* rather SHORT Harrington Richardson Topper Model 58 (Single shot, break barrel, 2 3/4" 1 Oz Remington Slugs) and it kicks like F*$#@$n David beckham. Still controllable but ya gotta know how to do it right lol

The kind of shot shell also matters, as in the load, the type, all that.

i dont hold it extremely tight but i hold it a lot tighter than i do when putting .22's through it. it has a butt plate but its hard plastic. shell cost doesnt really matter, if i get a .410 then i wouldnt shoot it much.
i had no clue that break actions had more recoil than others but i guess i can see why.

I had a franchi 20 gauge automatic, spring action with shoulder pad. After shooting 15 high brass, #2, 3inch shells at geese my shoulder was dark blue/ black the next day. Traded it for a cheap, gas, pump, 12 gauge eventhough the franchi was worth 4 times more.

Today I have a 1984 Citori 12 gauge, gas, double crack barrel with shoulder pad ( Granny Gun ). I can shoot dozens of any 3 inch shell, 2, 4, 6, high brass without getting a blue shoulder because of it's gas operation. My favorite shell is the Remington 3 inch nitro magnum express for both the 20 and 12 .

The main reason why people go home with a blue shoulder is because of the action of the gun, not so much the gauge, shell brass/ size, or shoulder pad. Holding the gun too loose against your shoulder is also not good. Too hard againist the shoulder will affect the aiming  more than anything; have to find the medium.

i would have to say your only half right ,on the reason for a bruised shoulder , here is the reason .
when i was twelve my father gave me a h&r single shot break action shotgun . we went out to shoot it , and other guns that he had .
he was throwing, by hand, clay pigeons and i was shooting , i told him that this gun is killing my shoulder , and he is like , oh give me that thing !!
he chambers up a 3" mag and tells me to throw out a clay , he pulls up..... boom!! the pigeon goes up in a cloud of dust!
he put down the gun on the tailgate and proceeds to tell me .... we need to put a sissy pad on that thing !!
my dad has shot more guns than most have seen . when he puts down a gun ... well you get where i am going with this .
anyway if you have ever shot a LIGHT break action shotgun ,with a magnum load and no sissy pad . you know EXACTLLY what i am talking about !!!
I can shoot magnum loads all day long out my 870 express mag. and have done ,hunting chukars. doesnt bother me .
i WONT shoot magnums out of a single shot break action , ever again , with out a sissy pad !!!! dang!!!!! that hurts!!!

Sissy pads? My Mossberg 12 ga has a plastic butt plate, my 30-06 M1 Garand has a METAL butt plate... I don't complain. It stops hurting after a while. The only guns that should have butt plates are 375 h&h's and up.

if i ever see that stupid ground hog when im out shooting i will be sending some rounds its way. it has been tunneling in the front yeard and i think it got under the front porch because it has cracks, a hole and a few broken bricks in it and there are tunnels all around it.
