Well the rebuild did come at a price

Repair airframe, strip and glass all surfaces, custom paint job, decals etc.....

Total dry weight will all equipment installed...... 35 LBS...she's a porker!

However with the amount of lift generated by that huge wing it should be a problem

I guess my Cheetah will be getting a work out!

Status: offline 		The monster looks great. I had the maiden on mine last month and it flew great , we did move the C/G to just behind the front tube. Won't be flying much for a while , my wife just had hip surgery and I have to play nurse for a while.

Status: offline 		Yes adding nose weight is a given with the Torus.. I recently extended the fuse 3+ inches
that allowed me to balance with "0" weight! + the plane is definetly lighter!!! I posted the
construction of this here recently

Status: offline 		I had to add 670 g (23.6 oz) of lead shot to the tip of my nose

However I would think that you want to keep the main tank as close to the CG to eliminate flight trim changes, besides you don't balance the airframe with fuel in the tank.

I keep my tank all the way aft (see post #251) to keep it close to the GC.

Status: offline 		I am using 8411's everywhere except the flaps as well. 2- A123-2300's each thru it's own JR HD switch. Lots of servo power - no problem I have a 170 in mine - clocked at 189 top speed.

Status: offline 		I maidened the Torus yesterday after spending considerable time setting up the radio, performing taxi and brake testing, and range testing etc.

I purged the fuel lines of my Kero Start Jet Central Cheetah and performed a test start, it was totally uneventful, a couple of minor flames to start then it was as smooth as silk once all of the air bubbles were purged from the fuel system.

After shutting down the turbine, I topped off the fuel and decided it was time to fly this thing.

The next start was super smooth, no flames at all and the Cheetah was purring in less than 30 seconds from the initiation of the start!

The take off was impressive, I used my take off flap position and it climbed out at a 30 degree angle and accelerated. The Cheetah pushed the 42 Lb airframe effortlessly; I found that I needed to pull the stick back to around ½ throttle while I was cruising around.

It only needed a couple of clicks of aileron trim and elevator trim, the first thing that was very evident is it was VERY pitch sensitive. The balance point was behind the main spar, so I guess I will have to move it up to the center of the main spar.

I installed 5W Luxon emitters and 1W red and green strobes in each tip tank, they really show up in the bright sun light

Unfortunately I forgot my camera when going to the airport

The attached photos are from Saturday when I test fitted everything together.

Status: offline 		I took the the Torus to the Joe Nall Fly in last week and put on five flights. I added a two cell 5000 mA LiPo on top of my battery tray for my lights, now the Torus balances on the center of the spar. All tendencies of elevator sensitivity are gone.

The Jet Central Cheetah performs flawlessly, it powers this 42 Lb airframe effortlessly, I find myself spending most of the flight at half throttle, I have my timer set for six minutes before I start my landing, the fuel tank is still about half full at the end of the flight..

Status: offline 		Managed to weigh mine last week. 35 lbs dry with about 1 lb of lead in the front to balance. Equipped with 2 -a123's, 4000 may 3 s turbine pack and 1600 mah smoke pump battery. UAT was full, the prest were basically empty. IQ Hammer170 for push.

Just finished building the Torus. With 3 huge batteries in the nose, she is still tail heavy. Anyway, since I've used Electron retracts, I need to add the 4th battery, so hopefully I will need less dead weight!!

By the way, most of you have been raving about the Torus. My personal views are that the quality is absolutely not up to the mark for the price you pay. No grudges against the owner of the company, but for a price tag of $1700, its not at all worth it.

1) 95% of the formers dont even make contact with the fiberglass fuse. i had to empty out two tubes of Hysol!!
2) The hardware that was supposed to be included (sullivan stuff), wasn't included in the box. However, that is being sent seperately now.
3. All the hinges are of poor quality.
4. The wing tips dont have a nice fit. Really have to sand the tips so that they lie flat against the wing.(not using the tip tanks, so I have no idea about those)
5. To hold the wing tips on, they have provided 2 M4 screws. That is a good idea, this way you can change the wing tips to tip tanks whenever you like. But with what I have seen, they dont use blind nuts but a M4 nut which was glued at an angle and the bolt was locked. I had to cut open the wing only to find a nut instead of a blind nut. Not a very good design and a lot of work for me!

The overall quality is dissapointing for the big price tag. This was my 7th jet that I built to throw around but am absolutely shocked at the quality. I even built a shockjet and DV8R and I can tell you, their hardware is way way better and the quality of all the components is absolutely fabulous compared to the Torus.

Anyway, hope some changes are made for future productions.

Your probably right about the quality on the boomers, the good part is all the designs fly really well. I am sure once you get a few flights on the Torus you will forget all the complaints on the build and quality.
