Status: offline 		Thanks Chic.......I do remember your references to to the Advenger and Birdog and the Bobcat........I can only keep up with one project at a time......and even at that, I spread myself too thin..........in reference to the washout, is this for the Bobcat or the Advenger?.......I do know that it is 2 degrees pos at rib #26 for the T-50............as far as the engines used ..........I peronally will be using two OS 160 Gemini 4-cycle nitro engines.........she will perform just fine on as small as 120's...........as far as gas is concerned......I have only the input of other builders on this thread...........Murphy is using the G-26's........send him a post........he can advise you there..........back to the washout problem Chic...........you can actually induce the necessary washout in you wing panels.......it's no different than removing a warp from your wing.........in this case, you are inducing a controlled warp at the tip of the wing.......the Don Smith wing used a jig at the rear spar to evelate it gradually from the wing root out to rib #26.....so the 2 degrees of pos washout was built in..........but, something happened on my right panel........it ended up with "0" washout on that tip....and 2-degrees on the left.........but not to worry!........my friend Ross said if it's made of wood.......it can be warped, 90 degrees if necessary......but remember, we are only looking at a measly 2-degrees..........so, we set the wing up on a table and level it at the center section.....then we weight it down and install incendince meters at the root and both wing tips............the meter reading at the root should be "0"..........my let wing panel meter indicated a pos 2 degrees washout............but the right panel was at "0", same as the root!.......so, we added a long bar to the meter and clamped it at 3 degrees after wetting the leading edge planking, top and bottom....and.....the front and rear spars with a mixture of water and amonia...........after 24 hours.........we now had equal washout in both wing panels.......................in reference to your paint scheme, I love the desert camo used on the RAF Bobcats............I think I may have a photo or two to send to you....if not I think I have a friend who could supply them.................Chic!.......get back to work on your Bobcat!........I will help in every way!

But I also have a bad tooth on the other side that's gonna have to come out eventually, so chewing anything is problematic. The tooth I had pulled today was on the good side!

Status: offline 		Great thread guys! The detail on some of these aircraft is outstanding. I understand the starts and stops of the builders here. I plead guilty also. I finished this RCM plans-built T-50 about 7 years ago and have yet to fly it. O.S. .30 fourstrokes for the push.

Dauntlessuk: My Songbird weighs in dry at 32 pounds...25 pound wing and 7 pound fuselage. Of course everything is in the wing except the rudder and elevator servo's. She's still a hanger queen however...(insert lame excuse here).

Status: offline 		.....Very nice work Bob.........I think I have the 1964 issue of RCM that featured these plans...........I purchased a set in 1995 and made plans to build her and then I discovered Don Smith had a 1/5 scale version...........I originally planned to scale the RCM plans up to 1/4 scale............then decided to just go with the Don Smith plan.........If I can remember right, the RCM plan made no reference to the cowl construction and I notice that yours looks to be of fiberglass or thin alum........they look great and the attention to detail is very nice.........also, what did you use to build the canopy frame?......that also was not clear on the RCM plans...........and, what does she weigh?...........when I saw your photos it occured to me that I had one on file  but dont remember where I found it.....I have been collecting info on this plane for years, which reminds me that I have a copy of this same plane .....also in the Canadian Crane color scheme.........in fact, I thought it was yours, but it turns out that it is not...........I will include a pic so you can see how close they are.

.....Bob, tell us about your project........like, what inspired you to build the Bobcat.....the color scheme........how long did you spend on building her...........what kind of problens did you incounter along the way?

Status: offline 		Yep. Linda shredded the turkey in her food processor and chopped some carrots extra fine. We also had mashed potatoes and stuffing. Everything was soft enough that I was able to eat without any trouble. The pumpkin pie's crust was a bit difficult, but I was able to wolf everything down.

......Okay you guys, I'am not the only one building one of these birds..........but it seems like it.........my friends have now refered to it as my life long project....I guess their right!, I did start on it in 1995.........I started out to just build it plain and simple........but the further I went into it and the more reference material I gathered the longer it was taking to the point that I could no longer project a completion date..........the new roll-out schedule will be Aug 2013.........and, you guys are witness to the fact that I am really trying to meet my deadline..............so, help me out here,  sometimes I need encouragement..........write an article about your project........post some pic's.........or, just say......."HEY"...........wahta-yall-doing out there............(Texas Talk)...............while I'am waiting to hear from y'all, I will post a few more pic's....

......I was wondering when you would ask?............the cooling baffels and the air scoop are all made of Crystalblank paper.....some people call it poster board......it is about .016 in thickness and is great to work with...........the secret is the stiffining of it after the part has been made. you know that CA will harden wood.....it will also harden paper....in fact so hard that you will not be able to cut it with an exact-o-knife......the CA soaks all the way thru the paper and seems to displace it's every fiber with a plastic like consistancy and feel......I have found that if the part is to have a paint finish it's better to coat the paper on the opposite side as it tends to produce an uneven surface that requires sanding to smoothing it for paint, and that works, but like I said, it is very hard....Once the part is made and hardened a light sanding will help prepare it for priming and paint....I am using Nitro fuel, so my choice of paint is Aerogloss......but they only produce the clear, sanding sealer, balsa filler coat and thinner........I primed the surface inside and out with the sanding sealer, my favorite.........I used three coats of sealer and finished it off with Satin Black LusterKote spray paint.        Try experimenting with this method on test peices of different paper to see how well it works.........but be sure to lay it on a non stick surface such as a sheet of teflon, that backing paper on most peal and stick decals........also an old teflon skillet will work......... ....so, now for a few pic's to better illustrate this procedure.

Status: offline 		Rich: That method works great. It's light and strong. That's how I made the rear hatch on my T-50. And it takes primer/paint very well. When I made the hatch, I used some CA that I got at Walmart...very cheap. Another reccomendation...do it outside, and preferably with a bit of wind. The vapors from that much CA are intense!
