Status: offline 		Won my first ever race today with my 2WD Slash!!

6 trucks: 2 SC10s, 3 Slashes, and a Losi Strike. Indoor carpet track, with homemade jumps.

Had two qualifiers, and the main. In the two qualifiers, I placed 5th and 4th. Then I won the main!


In the first two races, I had trouble keeping it right side up, kept rolling on me. I know, the Slash has a high center of gravity.

It was running great for the first 5 or 6 laps. But it seemed like as soon as the tires got warm it would flip at every turn.

I tried stiffening the suspension, by preloading the springs with spacers. That made it worse. Then I went way soft by taking all of the spacers out. This helped the rollovers, but the problem though was I bottomed out on every jump.



So, I need a happy medium. I know if I make the suspension stiff enough to not bottom out, it's going to flip. So what tire do you guys use on carpet? I need something that'll have some lateral slide, with enough traction that I'll won't just spin the tires when I squeeze the throttle (if that even exists).

Status: offline 		you can also try dropping the clips out, but then putting much thicker weight oil in the shocks. I'd suggest around 60 weight (30 is stock)

Status: offline 		Have you considered just doing a Rustler chassis conversion and stretching it with something like the STRC LCG kit?

How about shock position? Any benefits to moving them to a different hole?

Oil - 55wt/60wt

right, but you didn't change the shock oil to something heavier (about 60 weight is good). The heavier oil will keep you from bottoming out better. and it's not like bottoming out is the worst thing ever, flipping over is far worse.

agreed that flipping is much worse. The problem with me bottoming out was the rear tires would jump off the ground when i bottomed out, and for about 4-5 feet i had no control.

Since there's really no lack of traction on carpet, M2 Suburbs would be better. The harder compound would give you a stiffer sidewall and help prevent traction rolling.

Status: offline 		AT my club's track, we only run stock brushed slashes with stock tires on our carpet track, but here's how we cope with traction rolling(yes, this is allowed under our rules): tape the front tires. One wrap of electrical tape around the outside edge of the front tires takes away just enough traction to keep the truck from rolling in every corner without pushing/plowing too badly. You have to experiment with how far inboard you place the tape for best results. FWIW, I run no spacers on the front, and one thick spacer in the back, with 40-50 weight oil. I'd rather have chassis slap than traction rolling......YMMV, since your tracks rules are different.

Status: offline 		we are still experimenting with the class. right now they are saying its "open", meaning run whatchya brung, but this was also knowing that all entrants were using brushed motors. if guys start showing up with brushless trucks they may change things.

i ordered the shock oil, should be here any day. someone had mentioned having the shocks "low down" . . . can someone clarify that?

Status: offline 		hey, what i mean by low down is have the truck sitting lower down than you would for bashing, effectievly lowering the COG and helping with racing.
