So My girlfriend has more Tickets then me and Ive been meaning to look into getting her a decent radar scanner/detector for her vehicle. The HiPo and town cops around here wont bother giving you a ticket unless its over $100
Im shooting for the $100-$150 price range. What does everyone use and would recommended? (And I don't wanna hear any crap about not speeding so much)

Back in the 90's I used to have a lead foot and thought it would be a good idea to get a radar detector. After spending about a month of research, I dropped a good deal of money on something that would fulfill my needs. Not even a day later, the thing lit up and made all sorts of noises and I hit the brakes hard only to see the darkness broken by red and blue lights...

The cop told me that I wasted my money because they do not sit with their radars on all the time but just pull the trigger when a car is in range. I thought that he was full of it so for the next month I told myself I would not speed and keep track of how many times the thing went off and for how long.

9 out of 10 times the radar detector went off for less than 2 seconds and shortly afterwards there was a cop car in my line of site.

I have used my Dad's old one that he used to have in his M Roadster. At the time is was really nice, and expensive too. Driving around town I would know they were coming before they saw me. And RARELY it would go off before the police were in sight on the highway, they have Lidar anyways, once the detector freaks out they already have you speeding.

Unless your willing to drop several grand on one where they will pay for your ticket if you get one, dont bother.

You don't want a radar detector, you want a laser (lidar) detector. Police don't really use radar any longer. A newer Escort should do it. It wont really help though, by the time the detector pics up a laser, he has already gauged your speed.

doing the speed limit or 10mph over. they dont work in any big city because they use vascar Visual Average Speed Computer And Recorder because radar has to many problems in city. really tho try to keep your speed common sense 10 over cops look the other way most of the time.

Are you kidding me? The cops around here (I know them all) tell me that unless its extremely slow they let people go up to 15 over before pulling them over.

There is no such thing as laser detector. If you detect the laser it's already too late. You can get a laser jammer if it's legal where you live.

Sometimes you can pick up the scatter of laser, though.. (say the cop hit the laser on the car in front of you) But yeah, hard to combat the instant on laser unless you got a good jammer...

i hate to say it, but stopping the dangerous habit of speeding is the only real remedy.

its dangerous and often reckless, i can tell you how many accidents ive seen caused by someone speeding and close calls.

i got a ticket doing 97mph in a 55 down a country road with nothing and no one for miles, that was the second time i sped like that, and the last, it certainly wasnt worth the $300 and a mark. i just thank the lord i didnt get caught doing 125 down the same road a month earlier (went a little nuts for a sec )

drive safe, drive sain.

They are useless, but yes, there are such things as lidar detectors.

I saw something awhile back that would "alter" the speed you we're clock at to give you enough time to slow to the correct speed. Im in the country, nowhere near the (or a)city so the most common thing for cops to do is sit somewhere when its dark with their lights off or find one of the many hiding spots to pull someone over. I might be thinking of a jammer tho. Ive seen cheap "cobra" scanners but I honestly have NO IDEA what to look for. Jammer, Raider or lidar detector. So I want an idea before I get something

There is no such thing as a good radar detector for under $150 USD. If you find one, it is most likely utter crap.

Unfortunately, all the decent ones, which include laser as well, are going to run in the $300+ range.

It is a common sense that gold is very percious and now more and more people like the gold metal, and more and more people now join ge group of hunting for treasure and gold. This is like the "gold rush". But what is different form before is that now people use more advanced equippmemt to help them to find the gold.  And it seems among different equippments, people like the gold metal detectors most, because that such a device can help them to identify the detail information of the metal so that people can find it in a short time.

To me a radar detector is pretty much a waste of money. The boys in blue train on that equipment and use it daily. They can track cars and just hit you momentarilly and you are toast, detector or not. Sure, you might pick up scatter from somebody in front of you but you're just as likely to get a bunch of false alarms and start ignoring the detector anyway.
I just learned to set my cruise control at 9mph over the posted limit and leave it at that. Have not had a ticket since I started that habit.

But, if you still want a detector then you'll probably get way better info and answers at a site like this;

How is that crap?
She's the one breaking the law, possibly endangering the safety of others (and herself) while doing so and you want to spend money on something that will allow her to keep doing it?

Stop speeding, it will be cheaper and safer for everyone involved.
