Status: offline 		Dle 30 rear carb fits perfectly in the baby edge, this is what the plane was designed for. All of the documentation uses a DLE-30 as its basis.

Status: offline 		Be careful with that cute tank setup. I saw a guy at a contest who had to completely rebuild his carb and miss a round of the competition because he didn't take the liner inside the cap of the bottle out before he built a similar tank. The gas eventually ate into the wax/paper/plastic liner enough to turn it into small enough pieces to foul up his fuel filter, carb, etc... Several flameouts, hesitations and general engine maladies later, he figured it out. Much fun was had cleaning it all out as you can imagine. Anyway, just a word of warning.

Status: offline 		thank for the warning about the the fuel tank but the fuji bottle does not have a rubber lining in it . Iam just waiting on the fuel barbs before I put the yellow tubing on It. Should get all the parts to start on it this week or next.

Status: offline 		Back on the original question. I have the baby Edge with a MLD-28 and it flies great. I honestly believe the DLE-30 woudl be even better 'cause I think it has a bit more power. I can't imagine you won't be happy with this combo. It's about as good a flying plane in this size range as I've ever seen.

Status: offline 		jsallade  what was the final weight of the plane ? Does it have a good vertical climb and pull out of a hover with out a problem ?
This is my first gas airplane a bubby of mine is going to help me put it together and are whole club has open their doors for advice and help.
Just ready to fly it . the guy at the field have let me fly some 50cc plane to show me how different it is then my elecric stuff.
Still going to fly my eletric stuff around the house and at our park flying feild. Thank for all the help along the way!

Status: offline 		I believe it weighs just a few ounces over 10lbs... though I have a CF main landing fear on the way that may take it back down to 10 even. As I recall, at the present weight it will pull straight up out of a hover... Not rocket out but will pull straight up. I think with the 30 you will have a bit more pull than I do with my 28 (not just the difference in cubes, the 30 is just has a bit more thrust in it). It won't fly as well as my 88" WH Edge (with DLE-55) of course but it flies as well as anything in it's size range. It is capable of a good IMAC basic pattern, perhaps even sportsman and seems like it would be a capable 3D bird if I was so inclined.

Status: offline 		Unpacked everything and then we started to seal up all the wood on firewall and inside were the fuel cell will be. We just used some thin ca and a plastic bag to spread it around.
Then we started on drilling the holes for the dle 30 and found out that you need to grind or cut some of the bottom of the template . This way it sits flat on the firwall.!
Then we bolted up the  dle 30 the template is right the money  !

Status: offline 		Then we start to cut on the cowling. I will be using a pitts muffler and we had to cut of 1.5 to 2 inches off of the down pipes. Thisis  so we didnt have to cut the cowling ring. 
It fits great and the motor is in the just right spot and the clerance for spinner is right on the money. You will need to twist it on and pull on were the spark plug is or just remove it!

Status: offline 		Nexted was  to putting in the ignition mode in. It will not fit on the side of the firewall So we put it on the back side of th firewall and the we marked the fire wall for the throttle and fuel lines would go.
This is were the direction tell you to turn the carb over a 180 degrees .We found out this is for the trottle arm is at the bottom and not the top. This make it easier to put on servo rod.Then we hooked up a rod for the choke and put the fuelline on . Put  the cowling back on to make sure the the rod will be the right length. then we put the fuel cell in it and hooked everything up.

Status: offline 		This is my first gasser and I was looking for a thread like this before I bought my plane, but I went ahead and bought the complete outfit from Tom at Wild Hare and just finished getting it all together. This will not be a continuing build, just sharing some of my experiences so far with those folks who are interested in this model. Unfortunately it may be a month or two before I get to fly if it ever stops snowing.

The package comes with a Dubro 10 oz. fuel tank which seemed to me to be on the small side. However the guys at the field assured me that I would get 20 minutes flying time on the DLE-30 with this tank. I found that the Tygon tubing was too stiff to allow the clunk to move around freely. I used neoprene instead (Tower LXD735).

It also came with an A123 battery. At first I wasn’t going to use the battery for two reasons. First I was uncomfortable with powering the ignition from the same battery as the receiver because of interference concerns. Second, I didn’t want to invest in a new charger. However the more I investigated A123 batteries I became convinced that this was the way to go – especially on a 30cc airplane. FMA Direct has a charger for under $30 (Cellpro 4S)`http://www.fmadirect.com/products.htm?cat=89&nid=72 Tech Aero http://www.tech-aero.net/ultra-ibec sell an IBEC that functions as a kill switch, ignition battery eliminator, RF filter and voltage regulator all in one package. So that is what I purchased and installed. I would not advise going directly to the ignition with the A123 battery.


A word about the included hardware. The clevises are very stout, but I modified them by removing the metric screw and replacing it with a 2-56 screw. I also tapped the ends for 4-40 connecting rods. I didn’t use the supplied rods since I don’t care for Z-bends on a plane this large. I used Dubro 4-40 swivel ball links (Tower LXD916) on the servos. I also used Dubro heavy duty arms (Tower LXD670) on the servos. For the rudder servo I used an MPI aluminum arm. All linkages are very tight with absolutely no binding or slop.
I added a small bracket on the side of the motor box and fitted it with a couple of pieces of Nyrod sleeve to enable me to tune the engine without having to remove the cowl.

Control is with an Airtronics RDS 8000 transmitter and receiver.
Elevator – Two Hitec HS-5485 servos (separate channels)
Aileron - Two Hitec HS-5485 servos
Rudder – Hitec HS-645 servo
Throttle – Hitec HS-425 servo

I used the supplied tailwheel but I’m not too crazy about it. At present I have it set up to freewheel. Any suggestions would be welcome.

The next step will be to balance it and run the engine. The manual that comes with the engine leaves a lot to be desired. I found this document to be far more helpful.

Status: offline 		Bottom line is the size of the tank isn't going to change much, maybe a couple ounces at most. The plane is drastically overpowered anyways, a few extra ounces will not hurt anything.
