Greetings from Sunny Queensland

I am a bit wary (scared) of using gasoline in model aircraft because of the fire hazard.

My fear comes partly from the electric shock due to the build up of static electricity that I get when I first touch something after getting out of the car.

I fear that the static spark could trigger an explosion if I had a gasoline powered aircraft in the car.

I have always wanted to build a large bi-plane and to this end have converted a Zenoah G62 to methanol.

I drilled the seat for the high speed needle to enable a richer setting and had an insert made so that the spark plug could be replaced by a glo plug. The ignition gear is still there but not being used. I am at present using the original dust bin silencer and turning a Bolly 21-12 prop. Fuel is 10% synthetic oil and 90% methanol with zero nitro. Seems to have plenty of grunt. Sorry I did not put a tacho on it.

I haven't started to build an aircraft for it yet but I have in mind something like a Lazy Ace bi-plane.

Suggestions? Comments? Any one else followed this path?

You could take the ignition parts off and save some weight, or use the stock ignition with a spark plug..Works fine with methanol fuel....I picked up 600 rpm on a G26 by using a G23 glow carb and glow fuel with about 10% nitro, using the stock ignition...................
