Well, when I first started, there were 2 clubs in my area. Went to the first and the reception was not the best. Went to the second club and it was marginally better, but wanted to learn so joined. I have since been involved in the start up of a new Club and things just keep getting better. Most guys are great and don't mind at all that there is a Lady flying. Some bring their wives out to watch and it's great. BTW I can't stand snot covered planes, thats why I fly mainly petrol and the bigger the better.
MikeL: One of the things you learn about this hobby is that it appeals to some people, and definately does not appeal to others. Guys largely grow up with airplanes for toys, and girls largely don't. I don't doubt that there are many women who would enjoy the hobby if properly exposed.

That said, I kind of like things the way they are. I go to the field to relax and be around my friends. If everyone's wife/daughter was out there it would markedly change the dynamics. I have a feeling that some of the guys who participate suddenly wouldn't anymore.
What's wrong with change? You can still relax with your friends but now you just might have a wider circle of friends and you probably will be exposed to new and different things that you and your friends never imagined.

To be honest with you WHO CARES WHO COMES TO THE FLYING FIELD. What we all care about is R/C flying thats why we are at the flying site. Why should I not show up at the field because a certain type of person/people comes to the field too. You already have something in common and that's flying. If some of the people stop showing up because a certain type of person shows up then that's there business. If they want to be Anti-Social, then I would recommend gettting a private flying site so all of the Anti-Social people can be Anti-social together......just my two cents....

If someone can't relax at the field and leaves just because I'm there, I say good riddance and I hope your new field is more to your liking. I'm there to fly R/C and enjoy myself. Too bad you can't too.

Some people don't realize in R/C it's not about who you are but it's what you know. Not everyone thinks the same, I'm sure if you come to our flying site you will be more than welcomed and a lot of people feel that way.

I'm a heli pilot, I get the cold shoulder and the back bitting quite often. But i have a great time. I fly with respect and I dont hover over the runway or anything, the chair jockies dont like me becuase i'm differnt. Thats just fine with me. I would be happy to see more women in our group.

My question is:

WHY WOULD IT MATTER IF A WOMAN COMES TO THE FIELD TO FLY OR A KID OR ANYBODY ELSE?

We have to stop that Ice age thinking, this is the 21st century folks get up to speed!!!!

I don't think there's much ice age thinking here or at the fields where I fly. It's hard to improve on MinnFlyer's post; women and men have different interests. One of the fields where I fly has a regular female flyer, and I've never detected anything but good will both from and toward her.

I remember when I tried to learn to fly back the the late 70's. You don't know what it is like to join AMA and club, build a plane, take it to the field, have an experience instructor fly your plane, crash it, then laugh at you while he gives your transmitter back to you. If their were fewer people at the field, the two of us would have been on. Call me chicken, but I am not into unfair odds.

Today, I visit a lot of fields. Most are very accommodating and usually after a couple of minutes of flying, are OK with me and my skill. Other clubs make comments that cause my pressure to increase but little more. It takes all kinds. I am just glad for real flight and a couple of good people with big hearts!

I think we all have big hearts here at R/C universe Giest. Besides
if we didn't care about R/C and it's members we wouldn't be wasting our time on here right?

Everybody has there own opinion here and if we all had the same opinions then these postings in my opinion would be pretty boring.

If men are from Mars and women are from Venus, I'm pretty sure there are no R/C planes on Venus.

We have many R/C airplanes on my planet of origin. They are all pink and they never crash. I only came to Earth because I heard they had S.P.A.D.'s here and corroplast came in more and different colors.

Hello There Mr. Jones. This is an interesting post. I will tell you truthfully from my experience, I once stopped by a flying field with one of my girlfriends and watched for a while. When I approached the Pilot who happened to also be the club founder, I was told basically to shell out 200 dollars or so, and I HAD TO BUY a particular aircraft, and THEN get in line to be taught how to fly it and it wasnt free either. I think I was deliberately chased off. It wasnt my idea of a good time
