Really wouldn't suggest a jet or warbird for beginner. If you have aileron experience already then it's all good but if you're still learning you'll find it decorating the lawn awfully quick.

I have an EAM F-18 definitely not for a beginner. Or even for someone with a little aileron experience. It rolls so fast you just have to breath on the sticks.
I would definitely recommend a good bit of aileron experience first. There are some easier to fly EDF's that are more trainer like, but these small sport scale models will get out of hand quick. You simply have to know your orientation while flying as by the time you figure it by looking up at it you've thrown the sticks the wrong way. Plus being EDF's you can't really slow them down to make things easier. They'll just mush along at low speeds. Which makes it easy to stall them, and then it's over unless you have plenty of altitude.

There are some very cool electric jets on this site, including Gordon Meyers' F-18 EDF conversion from a Yellow Aircraft kit, and even a new "BOP" (Boeing's "Bird of Prey" at http://www.gworksdesign.com/Pages/Hangarindex.html

Have a look.
