Status: offline 		i used to do some basic rockets when I was younger, I am into rc planes, but I thought that it would be fun to do some basic rockets with my boys. I don't want to get real high or powerful, just something simple.
A couple of questions, do I want to get a simple all in one starter set or should I get stand alone products like a separate launcher pad or launcher controller (what is that called?) How big of an area is recommended, I was thinking about using some of our frozen lakes. Anything else that I should know?

Status: offline 		One of the estes complete setups is best for a starter, you can use the launch pad and the igniter with other rockets. You can usually find something for less than $40 on ebay that is ready to go.

Status: offline 		I second the starter set. Everything you need to go make smoke and you can re-use it for other kits later.
For additional kits I like the Fat Boy and Bull Pup. Both are easy builds and fly great. Let the boys paint them any way they want.

Status: offline 		Thanks guys, I wonder about those starter sets, sometimes they are great and sometimes they are pretty cheap and you want to replace everything.

Status: offline 		I'll second the starter kit with a couple extra like the Bullpup. I'll also recommend the Baby Bertha.

If the boys like the hobby you can upgrade the launch equipment later. Estes also had a starter kit with enough parts to build several rockets in a number of designs; picked it up at Wally World on sale once.
