7th Annual WARBIRDS OVER OKLAHOMA (Invasion Days: May 13-15, 2011)

The Military & Vintage Aircraft Association (AMA 4936) welcomes you to Warbirds Over Oklahoma 2011.

Warbirds Over Oklahoma 2011 Thread is here to update you on the 2011 event, and to promote RC Warbird enthusiast to share information and photos of the aircraft they plan to bring to the 2011 event. If you are like me and have an unfinished project you plan to bring; then please, post it here and let everyone see it.

This event is also sponsored by the Oklahoma Museum Of Flying; www.oklahomamuseumofflying.org. Weather permitting they will once again open this show with fly-bys with their full scale war birds based at the museum. There is never a landing fee to participate in this event, so come and honor our former and current Military Personnel by your attendance. Also I want to thank RCU for providing a place for us to share our projects and for supporting our hobby/sport.

This year's event will be held at the MVAA flying site in Yukon, Ok just a few miles East of last year's location. Get your mission plan and flight heading here: www.warbirdsoverok.org

The 2011 Event Best of Show F4-U award is being provided by Wyliewarbirds. Visit them at: www.Wyliewarbirds.com

Pilot Prizes provided by: Realm of Hobbies, Wyliewarbirds, (More Air Support is Inbound)

Steve....

Be looking for the OKSS Yellow Shirts to hit in force as we have been known to do. Really... you can't pass up a Warbirds that close to your own backyard... and the OK Sooner Squadron wants to see the new Area 51 field as well. Just get it on paper that we will have dry skies and light winds for May in Okieland. It will be great to see some of the TGD gang again along with some of our other Okie Clubs in the area...!!

Can't wait... we need to get this Okie season started...

Spritch,

I have my weather request in as stated. We are looking forward to seeing everyone too. Thanks for all of your participation and help over the past several years. I still like to sit from time to time and look at all of the photos Dean has taken along with your video documentaries.

For some unknown reason, I can not post my flyer. Can you try for me.

Thanks

Steve...

Would love to give it a try... but, for some reason... I can't find my copy of it. Thought it would be attached to your last e-mail... but I can't locate it as yet...??? I do know I was trying to turn it into a .pdf file... but where I put it is a mystery as of now...?? The copy you sent me was a .jpg image file... and it should have been in my 'catch all' folder... but it's not. It's on the harddrive... just not located as yet.

Warbirds Over Oklahoma flyer.
Please share with your warbird friends.

I keeping with the intent of Warbirds Over Oklahoma. We do not have any open flying for aircraft other than the permitted Warbird participant aircraft throughout the event. We also require all aircraft on the flight line to meet the operational requirements of the event. This assist in keeping the flight line with only the warbird aircraft permitted to fly during the event timeframes.

Remember, for this year’s event, aircraft do not have to be in military colors. Any aircraft used by the military, in military or civilian paint schemes are allowed. If in doubt, research your aircraft on the internet and bring your documentation to the event. You will find many aircraft that qualify. Aircraft like the J-3, not just the L series, but even the piper yellow one’s were flown by the Civil Air Patrol in search of subs on the East and West coast of the U.S. Other aircraft included the PT-14 (WACO), the early twin beech and Cessna 310’s, just to name a few. If you are not sure then contact me and I will assist you in your search.

Thank You,

Flight Leader
Warbirds Over Oklahoma

Thank you,

Steve Keesey

Great Joe,

How is the CARF P-51 coming along? I now have the CARF Spit, but no time to work on it. I guess it will be a Warbirds 2012 plane.

Any of you Jet guys out there that may be attending this event, I am a new jet owner and need a waiver in order to fly at events and at home. If anyone can help me please send me an email and let me know since I will be at the WBOK in Yukon and could bring my Jet and all AMA paperwork with me.

Thanks for any help.

We normally have at least one jet at the event. This year I am scheduled to fly a Skymaster L-39 for a friend. I am a turbine waver holder and CD, but we also have other turbine waver holders who attend, and some are CD’s too. If you are looking to obtain a waver during the event, this will not be possible because of the level of activity during the event. However you may have the ability to be accommodated while you are here at another site where jets normally fly. It will require you arriving early or remaining after the event ends, but I will need to contact a friend who may be able to help.

Also, do you have any other complex (Retracts, Flaps, High Wing Loaded, and Fast) piston warbirds? If so, fly those during the event and try to accomplish the waver.

Hey Warbirdracer, Thanks for the reply. I know there will be a lot of activity but after 4:30pm the mode of flying changes to a fly at will with no events scheduled. Would you be willing to work with me on a waiver should the situation arise that would allow us to safely preform the tasks required? My plane is a simple shockjet which I have flown once with the help of another wavered jet pilot, so I am familiar with the procedures and with the airplane. I also have the necessary paper work and would really appreciate the help

Thanks again
Jimmy

Ok LOL I got too excited when I first read your reply and failed to read the whole thing I understand what you are saying and I will be happy to do whatever I need to do so that I can accomplish the necessary requirements. I will be bringing a Ziroli C-47 with twin US 41cc engines, a 33% Balsa USA Neiuport 28, the shockjet , and one other 1/5 scale warbird, either a Topflite Tarheel Hal or Aeroworks P-51, both powered by DA50 engines. 6X12 trailer will not carry everything I would like to bring I am currently working an a Wild Hare F6F and will bring it if I can get a flight or two before the flyin.

Thank you very much Steve

Warbirds Over Oklahoma - Saturday 5-14-2011 was a success. After 2" of rain on Wednesday, we had about 45 pilots register and participate, with everything from WWI to a modern military turbine jet. Everything from electrics to Jet-A flew. Although the winds were somewhat high, several planes took to the clear blue for some of our own Sun-N-Fun. I have several pics to post, so check back soon.

I should say the event truly started on Friday with Jim Bennett and Team Realm. We flew all day Friday, and that rolled into a cookout where Team Realm cooked steaks and taters for everyone remaining at the field that evening.

Revised 5-15-2011

We also spent Thursday flying with Freddie Farmer and Mike Lewis form Tulsa, OK, and Brian Schwarz and his lovely wife from MO. Brian received our Medium Range Bomber Award for traveling the second farthest distance to the event. Also from Tulsa flying with us was Claude Christ with his award winning Balsa USA Fokker D-VII. (Photo to come.) On another note Claude made a very nice donation to our MVAA Youth program, Falcons Squadron. Thanks Claude, from all of us.

Our Long Range Bomber Award went to our own AMA District VIII VP, Jim Rice today, Saturday for traveling in from NC on his way home to TX.

Thanks guys, it was fun.

Sorry to miss the event Steve, but my planes refused to maiden for me thursday! I spent 3 hours at our field and got neither plane to fly. The P-51 was plagued with and an air leak, which turned out to be a bad control valve, and the weather turned to rain before I could get the Hellcat out. So back home I went to fix the air leak and the rain fell friday. There is always next year and the Jumbo Fly In is around the corner

See you there
