I gotta laugh (otherwise I would cry).

I just tried to search for my own thread using "subject only" for "sharpen" and "Sharpen". Came up with 3 hits. None were my thread.

Now, do I feel better? Uh, em, nope ...

Seems that there are several methods to invoke the "search" algorithm. Pics 1 thru 3 show a couple of methods that will execute the BETA (repeat BETA) search tool. It can't find its own arse with either hand. Pic 4 shows the "old search". Plug in "sharpen", pick "subject only" - badda boom badda bing - you get a beautiful result set. Dang - the old search WORKS!

So, please, pitch the new search engine - it doesn't work "as expected". Developers would now this through thorough testing - and, dare I say it - ask members to test it.

My Thread - is it in your list? Using the word "sharpening" is like using for the keyword "fart" when I'm looking for poop. Yea, just being a bit graphic for affect.

All your posts showed up for me when clicking on your name. I got nothing by using the word "sharpen"

Yea - that's my issue. The Beta search will give you list of posts that meet the search criteria and the old search will give you a list of "threads" that have a post that meet the search criteria. Neither is worth a tinker's damn if the index used by the search tool is corrupted and does not include all of the thread contents. There's a bunch of database technology under the hood of my issue. I've been involved with databases since the early 70's as a systems puke, programmer, database administrator, database engineer, data architect, systems architect and database software vendor. I'm just not real sympathetic when a basic piece of software like the database doesn't work as it should.

The search has never worked well for me. I've tried to understand why , but to no avail. Found a few workarounds that worked ok (above) One that I've never found is to find a thread that was started by me (just like yours)

I use the "google" specific to RCU in the OLD search page. It works for me.

I added the old search tool link to my Chrome & Firefox toolbars. Much easier to get to the "good" search engine (just kidding - of course).

Old Search Tool Link
