Hey guys,

I have a Yellow Aircraft 60 size Extra300L, with a saito 91 on the front. We did the balance at 4" from leading edge, upside down, and had to add 18 oz. of lead to the bottom of fire wall to get it to balance out right. It flies good, I am not too experencied with acrobatic aircraft so even to nose heavy is good for me. I have a 6 oz. weight on the crank shaft also...has anyone experenced this, and is there any other way to get some of this dead weight out?

Thanks,

Brian

Pick a new plane! I saw that weight and it's not coming out easy without some heavy duty carving!

I guess I'll use this to get me used to the Extra and how fast and responsive it is...once I master that I think I am going to go with an Edge....I have only been flying for about 8 months, I still have lots of learning to do...this thing is a challange to land !!! (in one piece) !!!!

PS, capn...where do you fly, I belong to York Co. Flyers in Rock Hill SC...I see you live on Lake Wylie...drop me an email if you wish..

I had a Yellow Extra and didn't have to add a stitch of weight to have the balance work out... and I was also using a Saito 91 (see link below).

Did you tail mount the servos or mod the plane at all?

nope, servos are in the tray, battery and rx is directly behind the fuel tank, the engine is out as far as I think I can have it, the cowl only overlaps the fuse by about inch

Strange indeed. How about throwing the battery behind the servos to start... if the receiver can fit under the pull-pull cables (which it might), maybe stuff the receiver back there as well.

It's ok to be an inch in front or behind of the CG.

mmm...

I need weight up front not in the rear.. I am new to the Extra style aircraft so I set cg at 4 inches behind the leading edge..I can go further back but I can just remove a tad of weight to do that...I am trying to figure out a way to get same balance and take some dead lead out of the front...without putting larger motor on it...but then again,,,that may be fun

Whoops, I meant push the battery and receiver forward... next to the tank.. as close the firewall as possible.

How much weight can you toss if you try that?

I'll have to try it, I don't think it will make too much diffrence but a couple of oz. is a couple of oz.

Very interesting! I have one of these and am using an OS FS-91, which is a little heavier than the Saito 91, so it will be interesting to see how mine balances when I finally get there.
