Status: offline 		I know some people have used methanol on gassers in the past and got more power. Would E85 give more power and what oil and ratio should be used? I'm assuming a synthetic oil should be used so that it blends well with the E85, but with the lower lubricity of the ethanol at 85%, I should probably use more than 1:30 oil/E85 mix. Anyone tried this?

Status: offline 		You aren't going to see more power with E85 unless you increase compression ratio to take advantage of octane rating. The lubricant needs to be compatible with alcohol, castor or synthetic. There aren't many choices for lubricant, Klotz KL-200 is one I've used. Oil ratio is a good question, let us know what you find.

Status: offline 		I know people in Florida that successfully ran 20:1 KL200 in their Sachs 3.2 and 4.2 when burning methanol. Dont know how low you can go but tipping the can never hurt. Try a full length tuned pipe with E85 for insane power.

Status: offline 		I have a .61 size pipe, would it be big enough for a DLE-55? I know the DLE runs at half the speed the .61 used to run at, but the opening is very small. Any suggestions on a pipe for the -55?

Status: offline 		you will need one of the "canisters" for a DLE55. These are specially designed for gasoline engines and takes advantage of the massively increased gas flow that a 55cc engine has and lower rpm.

The engine porting and hence timing on the DLE is optimised for gasoline so E85 is going to give you no gain, you will have less power. It may burn faster but it yields a lower temperature of combustion which also means possibly increase friction since the engine block will reach its design temperature.

Status: offline 		Actually there will be some power increase, just not as much as if you raise the compression ratio.  The same can be said for methanol, but E-85 power increase will be moderate compared to methanol.

Hot rodders have found that both ethanol and methanol will increase power with no mods.  Cam and port timing are related to the RPM that peak horsepower and torque are required, not the fuel.  The fuel increases the combustion pressure which increases torque at this peak thus also increasing horsepower.

I think the confusion is because of efforts to regain some economy when running E85, increasing compression increases power and economy.  But only moderate fuel economy when using the max power, so timing is altered to decrease power and to produce power at a lower RPM thus increasing economy.

Status: offline 		I have mixed some E85 with 10% castor mixed in and I'm going to try it. I know the castor isn't the best oil for a gas engine, but it blends in the E85. I have some KL-200 too, I'm going to try mixing 6% KL-200 in E85 and see what rpm I get compared to 30:1 gasoline.

Status: offline 		what this cat has is a project car. if he was driving a daily driver he wouldnt have as a glowing report. also some of his info is wrong. also i have worked on and owned LOTS of that carb he used , on scale of 1 to 10 that carb is a 3. that carb is good ONLY if you know how to work on it, he doesnt.
