Now that I'm comfortable with flying, I've noticed I'm taking more chances. Some might call it "gettin' cocky".

You know you're gettin' cocky when you...

Fly low, high-speed, inverted passes over the runway

Perform an immelman immediately after take-off

Perform a split-S right into final approach

Let the plane go for "just one spin" before pulling out about ten feet above the deck

Start saying to other pilots "Hey! Watch my new trick!"

Yup, I've done it. I'm gonna piss off the Crash Gods for sure.

Any other symptoms I should look out for?

When you fly an inverted pass over the pitts with your gentle lady on the way back to the landing lines in a glider contest because you maxed your time hanging over the kibby dome in the rain and no one else has even come close to the times.

when you slam you over powered trainor in to the gorund on a high speed low inverted pass.

When your making another inveted pass with another plane and rip the rudder off at the end of the runway.

When you and a friend find how close your planes can get, and see how much area you can cover with plane parts.

When you play competeing with another person who is also flying a trainor, and some one says "uh oh, 2 young bull are out".

I didnt, The plane I did that to was my own design, a small stuff was all that was left, when i landed, the plane fliped on its back and crushed the remaining stub of a rudder.

You start trying to break the "valley run" record.

Our field has a couple of places where the ground falls off lower than the runway. From the pilots box, you can't see the bottom of the valley, but it's not really all that deep, maybe 30 feet. Sooo, the trick is to take off, dive from the end of the runway out of sight, make the left turn to follow the valley, and pop up back in to sight a few seconds later. Assuming you didn't just deepen the valley by a few inches. Please remember to replace your diviots

Sounds like the end of the field where I fly. Did a flameout on takeoff while I was still learning (Magnum XL .40 engines are CRAP, by the way) and had my 40T trainer vanish down off the end of the runway. Frantically, gave it full up on everything and it suddenly appeared above the rim, rolled over on its back like a whale breaching and vanished from sight.
Such a beautiful image that it still brings a tear to my eye. No, wait, it was the sickening CRUNCH! immediately afterwards that does it...
Did you know that you can replace 5 firewalls in the old Airmaster 40T ARF before it becomes unrepairable?

when your last up in the climb and glide, you've gone 2 mins over best time, and can't be bothered to land yet, just want to eek out that lift a bit longer
umm also when a mate brings out a heli, asks you if you want a go, after a few hops you get hovering 2-3 feet off the deck, thinking, this isn't too bad, better give it back before it gets expensive.
i normally stop before i get too cocky

i like the sound of vally run, we have whistle ally at a gliding site, a path with the field raised on one side, and small trees/bushes on the other, dive in with inches either side, are you comming out? or stand at another site and fly between the granit boulder you stand on, and a 1m granit post about 2m in front of you is the pylon turn. fun with balsa gliders
