Hello again guys, I have almost got the Tempest finished with the last of the fiddly bits nearly finished. I have one more battery to mount and then fit the dummy exhaust and I will be ready to balance. I have weighed the total plane in peices and it comes to10.5kg (23pound roughly) and will prob need a generous amount of lead in the nose. I am on holidays for a couple of weeks so I want to at least get the motor running before work goes back. Cheers Trent.

Hello guys, I decided to assemble the Tempest to take a photo or 2 to show the additional markings that have been painted since the last pics. I also need to get the C.G. as my plans dont state the distance. I could go 25% at wing at fuse but also anyone can chime in with a measurement from a similar size tempest. The wing is a scaled down Vailly Aviation design so I could use the measurment and reduce to suit this size. If Alan 'Spitmad' reads this post pm me with the measurement. Keep on Truckin.

Looks better all the time Trent.
Even with say 4.5 Lb in the nose it should be just right.

Cheers,

Brad

Hello guys, Casey yeah the kids love being outside with me and the little bloke 'Tom' steals my tools and runs out of my shed with me close behind him. I hope the kids want to get into the hobby but I wont push it and wait and see. Brad cheers for the comments and when I get a chance to balance I may have to raid the scrap metal merchants for lead. I know it will nedd quite a bit so now I am preparing myself for up to 2 kg and see how we go. Cheers Guys Trent.

hey trent , happy n year , nice looking bird . THE weight in the nose issue is pretty common on these .
.on my bates i think im going to be alright , because i'm putting an 80 ounce 3w 70 up front , but i also may have to extend the nose a little
still working on the upper half of the fuse and tail , jeeze these kites take time

Hrllo again guys, Alan thanks for the C.G. and I recently did a rough balance and it looks like about 1.8 kg ( approx 4 pound) is req. I have made a ring of lead and epoxied into the very nose just behind the spinner and because the fiberglass around this area is not removable it should have enough strength. I took the Tempest down to PARCS today and started the engine for the fist time and did some tuning. All went well and I will try to get some more run time soon on the engine. Cheers Trent.

Thanks guys, i will try to get some video but dont have a good cameraman. I also tend to avoid crowds when test flying and may end up doing it early and away from everyone. Cheers guys.

exactly what I do Trent, I hate test flying with onlookers and people in my ear except for my inspector.

Hello G.T. not any progress on the Tempest, motivation has been the big issue and other projects have been a distraction. Soon it will happen and hopefully that wont be too far down the track. Cheers Trent.

Hello Pete, the P-40 is pretty much ready to go. I have run the motor a couple of times and balanced, only needing to cycle the gear and hook up gear doors. I get planes 90-98% completed and move to the next one. I think it may be a confidence thing and not having any hesitation to just fly them with the same manner as I do the cheap arse foamies. Also I have not flown anything big from the club field I am a member at and the love of building wins over flying( you cant write off a plane after a 12month build sitting in a safe workshop). I am currently building a plug for a 85inch P-51 mustang which I am enjoying and have a growing Interest in the composite aspect of our hobby. Rock on dudes. Cheers Trent.
