Sam,
I mainly fly WWI BUSA planes, I recently purchased a Ziroli Zero. What is the best way to transport a WWII bird. I have heard of making a stand out of pvc, I know you travel all over. Whats the best way to get your plane to the show without damaging it. WWI is easy strap the wheels and the tail down and go.

Scott,
Affirmative.

=========
Bill,
Besides selling them,
1) if the wing is three piece, just secure the mains with bungees and put foam under the fuse to buffer wear on the oleos.
2) one piece wings, I use PVC pipe and pipe insulation to secure the fuse.
3) wing bags are made out of about 1/4" thick aluminum/bubble wrap material from home depot and secured with bungee cords.
There are a lot of other very good methods of transport.
I think someone started a thread on trailers with pictures of their transport methods.

Ohio Dawn Patrol
July 15/16.
38 mile trip.

Another great weekend with a great group of pilots.
Sunny and light winds on a X shaped runways: fly on the North runway in the morning and the South runway in the afternoon to avoid the sun.
All grass runways located in a valley with farm land and trees in the pit area to keep cool.
Shower facilities and a sink was constructed for the flyin, which is always nice to have after a long day at the 'field'.
The flyin was concluded with a nice pulled pork roast dinner.

The pictures were taken early Friday so I missed a lot of pilots/planes that arrived later.

Great pictures, Sam.

Looks like there was a lot of fun to be had.

I've got to make this event next year.

Jet World Masters 2011.
July 24 - August 6,
Wright Pat Museum.
40 miles.

About 16 countries.
Most of the jets make my Ziroli SBD look small!
Today was another practice day but lots of jets were flying.
Interesting in the Italian team appeared to use compressed air to start their turbine (which is an old technology).
Most of the pictures are in the 'set up' tent.
I got a few action shots.

The white jet with all the large printing (Switzerland) on it, crashed.
He took off, did an immelmann and just as he rotated upright (about 500 feet), it just floated for a second and then arced and then came in vertically: the remains are seen on the cart (which is not recognizable as a plane). Initially, I thought that he had a 'flame out' but the pilot turned and said 'I didn't have it'.

The cockpit shown has a working visual screen (not turned on when picture was taken).
5000' runway: should be enough.
Many famous pilots and planes used this runway.

Gary,
She's sitting in the living room: this morning, I remembered to charge the batteries!
After building the SBD and Hellcat, I'm focused on getting these two flyable (Didn't want to 'jump ship' from the two Ziroli's).
After all the 'bugs' are worked out of the Ziroli's, I'm hoping to get the F4U out (which will require a PM after sitting there all winter).
These scale planes take a lot of work and I don't want too many 'irons in the fire' at once.
Two new planes are about all that I can handle at once!

I'm sure everything will go well with your maiden.
The airport should be enough runway!
I go to TORKS in Columbus to maiden all mine: I want a 1000 feet of runway, no trees (or corn) so I can let gravity bring her in and not have to force her into a short runway (also plenty of room in case a 'dead stick'). Forty-fifty pound airplanes eat up a lot of runway real fast!

Roger all that. I fully understand what you are saying. I guess I didn't realize you were flying so many new planes this year. Should have followed your threads closer. You are so right about scale planes. If spectators only knew.

Beach City has a long enough runway for a DC-3 to land on. I usually maiden at Alliance, but it is only 600' and the corn is up now and full of ears. That would leave a mark.

I did find out that a 26 X 8 is a good short field prop. I landed our 50lb P-47 in about 300' including roll-out last week end, with that prop. It sucks for speed, but it did climb out realistically and had respectable maneuvering.

The new 26 X 10s came this week, so she will be sporting that size again.

Mike,
I thought I'd stop in and see all my old buddies.
I'm leaving all the planes at home since they are all ready of the 1500 mile trip, starting Wednesday.
