Northern alliance military fly in.
Aug 12-14
Owatonna, Minn.
750 miles (one way)

Well, it's hard to get any better than the last two weeks.
My buddy, Scott Prossen and his dad Ray, came up from Florida (1500 miles, one way) and we had a blast.
We set up our six tents (two deep) and put 9 planes in them.
Scott had his Meister P-47 with a moki 150, the 110" Wildcat with a moki 250 and a comparf 'blue angels' painted jet. I had my Ziroli's P-47, SBD, F6F, F9F, C-45 and P-61.
We got 'tons' of flights in.
Not sure on his 'count' but I had 13 at Owatonna and 27 at Fond du lac and went through nearly 8 gallons of fuel.
Perfect weather, the entire two weeks (rained one night from 2-6 am) and no storms.
Scott's brother, Greg, came up from Milwaukee and we had a good time flying, watching and eating.

About a 100 pilots at Owatonna.
The nice thing about the big events, besides all the variety of unusual planes, is just about all your pilot buddies show up from the entire mid-west and lots of 'war stories' are told.

Tim, Phil, Steve, Cal and the rest of the crew put out a lot of work getting the 'show on the road'.
Tim's wife, Kathy, was there from early morning until late at night, making breakfast, lunch and dinner for us: a truely monumental task for a bunch of hungry pilots.

Saturday night was concluded with a great pulled pork feast with all the 'fixins'.

Unlike the usual Sunday with just a handful of pilots left, there was about 25 of us still flying off of that 1200' runway.

Ron,
I'll be getting my planes ready for Warbirds over Indiana.
Who's hosting the Aug 28's flyin?: maybe I can get the SBD ready and bring that to Dayton.

Warbirds and classics over the midwest.
Fond Du Lac, Wis.
Aug 18-20.
only 250 miles from Owatonna to Fond Du Lac (then 550 miles to home).

About 113 pilots signed up.
Not all the planes were the same as at Owatonna as some unusual ones were present.
Also, Mac Hodges was there with his 20' B-29: besides being a great pilot, he is a very amiable person.

WW I was well represented as about 33 planes were at the meet.

Fox 11 came out and live taped some of the show and Scott Prossen was interviewed:
http://www.fox11online.com/dpp/good_day_wi/action-packed-air-show?ref=scroll

(the rest of us didn't mind since the Fox interviewer was...well...really Fox-y as you can see in the above video!)

A 'running' joke now with my own 'named' spot since I get there so early, I get that spot by default!
Full size stearman with smoke.
Cal working on his WW I plane.

Hey Sam,
It was great seeing you and all of our other friends again in Fond du Lac. When I was first approached by Fox 11 TV to do four spots on TV starting at 6:30AM Saturday morning, I knew I would have a tough time getting pilots and planes that early. After I spoke to several potential pilots the day before, I wasn't getting much response. Then came Saturday morning and as Sam would put it, the "FOXY" reporter arrived on the scene! Suddenly things were different. It was 6:30 in the morning and there were pilots with planes asking to be on camera! By the way.... I have the reporter Emily's cell number. You know, for next year. We would be happy to see her here again. All kidding aside, we had a great time having all of you at the best grass field in the midwest. Thanks for making Warbirds & Classics over the Midwest 2011 a huge success!
Roy
