Might as well start this off with new AMA rules for large aircraft:

See your CD for additional info as there are new rules including higher weight limits.

go to www.modelaircraft.org
under ' members and clubs' select AMA documents
select Large Model Aircraft Rules(over 55 pounds)
select 520-A AMA Large Model Aircraft Program Requirements and Inspector Information

samparfitt -> RE: ROAD TRIPS 2011 (2/11/2011 11:59 PM)

Just got my Joe Nall registration in the mail.
May 7-14.

NCIS -> RE: ROAD TRIPS 2011 (2/12/2011 12:25 AM)

Sam,

The new regs. are like a short novel. I will have to read and re-read it a few times before I understand all it's content! I need to know what is going on so I'm prepared for an inspection and to qualify because my Corsair is definitely going to weigh more than 77lbs. Do you have it all figured out yet? May of this year is out of the question for me as far as any of my builds. I am looking more toward Summer of 2012. I am looking forward to seeing you and hope we can become friends. Will you be at Fondulac this year? I should have my Z P-40 ready for mid Summer this year. But the Corsair is a totally different matter.

Have a good time at Joe's event,

samparfitt -> RE: ROAD TRIPS 2011 (2/12/2011 12:29 AM)

Barry,
Yep, I'll be at warbirds and classics over the midwest.
I'll be at most of the events that I attended, last year.

prop wash -> RE: ROAD TRIPS 2011 (2/13/2011 2:34 AM)

Sam I am still hoping to see you at one of these events along with "Corsair Jock",you too Barry.The Midwest Sundowners WBD is July 16 at Wheeler IN.I know Jim will be there as long as the weather is good.We had a great day last July.Barry,do you think you could get away from all that cheese and come fly with us?? Not as grand as WBotRockies but we have fun and about 100 pilots.
Tom

Rebel Flyer -> RE: ROAD TRIPS 2011 (2/13/2011 5:32 AM)

Sam, I am going to Nall this year for the first time. Maybe we can meet up when we are there? I will have two 10X10 tents there.

So far, road trips to the Toledo Expo, Top Gun, and Monster Planes for sure. Others to work in around work. Hope to make some new friends and see others again.

rzingsheim -> RE: ROAD TRIPS 2011 (3/5/2011 12:09 AM)

Hi Sam, What day/days will you be at Toledo. I'll be there Thurs. PM, Fri all day & Sat AM. We will be at the show promoting Warbirds & Classics over the Midwest. Maybe we could hook up for a cold one some evening? We will probably be frequenting the Balsa USA guys and the Robart crew areas. Glad to see you're signed up for Fond du Lac. We are planing on another great show.
Roy

samparfitt -> RE: ROAD TRIPS 2011 (3/5/2011 12:22 AM)

Hey Roy,
I'll be there only on Saturday: just staying for that day.
Hope to see ya'.
I'll be visiting both balsa and robarts display areas.
I've got enough 'crap' to last me a few years of building so I won't be buying much: heading up there mainly to see old warbird buddies and get the 'juices' flowing for flying: Need a couple Mejzlic 3 blades for my Zirolis F6F and P-40.
There's no way I'm missing Fond du lac: that, northern alliance and warbirds over Indiana are a must for me.
I signed up for a new meet at Muncie: rally of the giants. Sounds like another meet to add to my favorite top three!
Almost forgot Joe Nall: another great event.

Hey Sam, look my brother and I up if you have a chance. We will be hanging around Zombie. We plan on a demo of the new Down & Locked electric conversion on her most of the show, so we will be hanging around the plane for that.

Gary

samparfitt -> RE: ROAD TRIPS 2011 (3/5/2011 12:46 PM)

Yo Gary,
Saw your Zombie, last year at Toledo.
You do real nice detail work.
I'm looking forward to seeing yours and Scott's completed 144" P-47.
I'm hoping that you start a build thread.

Just noticed that soloprops is selling flightskinz (aluminum foil).
40 bucks for a 6"X50yard roll (or even by the yard).
Nice in that you don't have to buy multiple rolls.
Also, piano hinges, now that Nelson's no longer does.

Here is a link to his build thread. He used his product on his latest build, a Meister P-47. He also tried some new procedures with it that look very promising. I'll be trying it on my next use of this type material.

samparfitt -> RE: ROAD TRIPS 2011 (4/1/2011 11:21 PM)

Road trip 1:
April 1, Toledo, Ohio RC show.
185 miles (one way).
The total trip took 12 hours.

I went on Friday, a day earlier than planned.
Still lots of vendors and saw a lot of flying buddies from other states that I see at the warbird flyins.
I guess Friday is 'set up' time for the main static display as pilots were just bringing in some of their models.
The P-40 is century jets 102": it looks pretty nice.
The huge battle ship was pretty impressive.
A 150" (or so) AT-6.
Gary Bussell brought his 102" spitfire.
