I just got an apparently decent price for a Phase 3 F-16 EDF kit. Came with an approximately 54 mm fan unit with an attached tail duct in clear plastic. The fan unit has a brushless motor and ESC. No radio. Anybody have any experience with this plane? It looks to be a well made foamy.

Also, with these aging eyes, I wasn't too happy with the normal two or three shade grey color scheme, nor did I want to load the plane down with what feels like a half pound of vinyl stickers, so I got on the web and downloaded some more colorful schemes, simplest of which use the standard color buut add some nice fin flashes. Then I found these three, which look eminently doable, and should be very visible in the air regardless of the sky conditions. Anybody have an opinion? I'm frankly stuck between the 1930s trainer colors, and the gold Pride of Siouxland (special for the Iowa ANG, apparently). I kind of think the Fort Smith Razorback fin flash should have a Fox on it for some reason.

It's an oldie but goodie for sure. Mine flys fine on the stock power system, and there are many hop up options. Keep an eye on the fit of the taileron bushings. They tend to get soft after some use/abuse. Many upgrade the tail parts holding the brass bushings. Basically it involves replacing the soft plastic on the sides with some lite ply or similar in contact with the bushings. Don't rely on a foam to brass joint, or the original soft plastic. It works ok the way it was originally designed provided you never botch a landing or accidentally bump it in the car or similar. Everything else is absolutely fine as the manual directs.

This is the most comprehensive thread about that plane:

Happy searching!

Wind Junkie knows the Phase Three F-16. Very helpful, too. He's your go-to Joe on this sweet bird.
Enjoy!

I have it. Flies great. Just let off the elevator control when you touch down so you don't hurt your tail controls in the grass. Mine is stock but before you glue on the wings paint just the top sides bright red or something you like that is highly visible. Also paint the top of the tail pieces before glueing. Very very helpful and forget the stickers that came with it except maybe use the black stripes for the bottom.

It was on the LHS shelf for about 3 years. I'm not sure how accurate my measurment was.
I just re-measured, looks like the impellor might be closer to 60-64 mm. Makes me wonder if there might be a future for this power unit in Roy Clough's ol Jaunty Alouette, a 1950s era control line ducted fan job. The plane looks like it builds up to about the right inside diameter.

I still think that 1930's era paint scheme, or maybe the IANG gold will make for a very visible aircraft, especially if it lasts relatively unscathed to our annual public flying demonstration.
