Thanks Dom for checking in. Can you snap a pic or two of your battery installation?

Hi Sean
Has Scott said if you cog it at 25mm behind the tube you will definetly need to fit the battery's in the turbine area.

Cheers
Ian

Great feedback guys, thanks! I'll hold off locating them until I balance the model. Glad I asked.

Just to ad to your data, I have put my ECU and a 2.2amp rx lipo stuffed in the nose to bring my CoG to 20mm behind the tube and it flies nicly at this CoG.  As for fixing I gluded a pice of hardwood wrapped in fome just over the front leg when retracted then velco each cell to the inside side of the nose.

Got the Futura almost finished. Ran it up today and tested all the systems, including smoke. Just need to dial in the throws and play with the brakes a bit more. They work fine at first but quickly loose pressure. I think my tank is too small on the brakes so I'll look at putting in a larger one or another small one to increase the capacity to allow more applications of the brakes.
Here are a few pics of it on it's own gear for the first time.

Does anyone have a good profile shot of their Futura? Just going through the final few checks before flying mine and notice that it has a slight nose down stance when on its gear. Is this standard? With full fuel the trailing link nose gear on grass I anticipate this stance to increase and wonder if it will want to plow or wheelbarrow a little on takeoff?

Hi Sean
Are you using the tomahawk retracts? If so I fitted a 10mm spacer on my nose leg to raise the nose up which made a
Big difference on the take of run also!

Hope this helps

Ian

Yes, they are the TH gear. Where did you put the spacer, and did you need to add any additional parts to lengthen it? A pic would be helpful.
Thanks

Mine has slightly negative AOA but that doesn't prevent it getting in the air quickly with the K140 in it. If I made the nose leg any longer I wouldn't have any nose left.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll need to see if I can get some material to lengthen the pin (the spacer should be easy enough to make).

Between rain showers today I was able to get out to Hamburg (about an hour from me) and fly my Futura for the first time. The field is in wonderful condition.
Had two uneventful flights. Here is a clip of the second flight.

http://youtu.be/-XgYiKozpjw?hd=1

Due to the poor weather the smoke (at 2:12 and at the end during taxi) doesn't show up well against the sky. Most of the flight was done around half throttle. there is one full throttle pass at 3:40 in the video but it's not that much faster (by design of the futura, which is a draggy 'constant speed' airframe).

I'll try to get some better video (this was just done with a small camera on my hat) and stills in the near future.

Thanks for all the input in this thread, and for Ali's build tips. I couldn't be happier with the results, and feel it should make a nice grass field addition to my hanger.

Thanks Dom. It has a unique sound to it, which I suspect is the air out the inlets as there is no where for it to go out the back. Kinda cool. I added a couple clicks of down elevator with full flap but nothing else. I was surprised how smooth it feels right off the board.

Just loving this jet. The perfect answer for grass field and simple operation. Just logged my 25th flight on the model (not bad considering the maiden was 10/25) and haven't had to touch anything from the original setup. Just assemble, fuel, fly, refuel, repeat...

Here are a few pics and some video clips. Not the greatest quality but it shows the smoke system to good effect. It's a Powerbox systems pump right out of the box on a B100 turbine.

http://youtu.be/m9NOuzxoOvw

Thanks to Ali, Scott, and the others on this thread who have shared great info!!

Looking great Sean
Can you maybe share a picture of the setup of your smoke system, especially the "sticks" ?
Are you suing one or two tubes for the smoke ?
