Nose weight depends on the battery used. You had a NiMH? I used a small 1600mAh Li-Po. When I do the next one I'll arrange things forward more.

You are using the LiPo battery for all?I mean for servos L/G and turbines Ecu? how many flights will give you the 1600 LiPo battery?

I have two Li-Po 1600mAh. One with a Digi switch for radio and U/C electric retracts, one for the Turbine. I need to charge both tomorrow to see amounts. My guess is 20 flights radio and 10 flights turbine (on board gas), but as always I will charge after know useage and see. Unknown is flap servo use, P-20 models like my AW Cougar without flaps using a Powerbox Digi switch use 40mAh per flight! That has a 3000mAh Rx Li-Po

Good effort dave! So question is, when can we get our greasy mitts on them?
Also, what sort of takeoff length needed from grass? Did the plane handle the rougher grass conditions ok?

Only the ships captain knows that! middle of March latest. Sold two more conversion sets today after the test flights. Take off run was quite long today, 45-50m, but the grass was very wet and quite long-we get a lot of worm casts and these act like wheel chocks! Also I set the plastic wheels quite tight on the legs, so they polish in nicely. It floats off and I'm set dead level with std wire leg length on the nose, I will add 6mm length with oleo. I would guess on normal grass 30-35m, landing roll today was 10max!

Ok.

Expo figures I'm flying are 20% on ailerons and 35% on elevator, 20% on rudder steering-if you run a separate nose steering channel, I'd run less rudder expo.

Excellent, sounds like a good small field flyer, just the sort of model I'm after, prob take me a while to get a landing roll of 10m tho!

OK, charged up both Li-Po packs and Rx was 168mAh...that's all the final set up and three flights! ECU was 87mAh per flight.
So safe I have 25 flights Rx and 15-16 ECU.

The micro on board gas tank also looks to give minimum 3 starts.

Guys,

Sorry about the quality but here is the video taken at the weekend. First link is to the maiden take off and lading only as these are of interest to most as opposed to the edited middle part which is of a small model at height dialing in the flaps etc.
Second link is second flight in full.

Nice job Trev, Aileron differential needs a tweek still.
Cross wind direction on our patch gives 70-80m (and ridges!!) shorter grass will defo reduce take off roll, amazing how it copes with 2 1/2" of grass!

Out this morning for a few hours and eight (8) flights on the Habu 32. Having got 99% of a set up I like dialed in, I have to say it flys a lot like a Bandit! Really, the elevator feel is very much the same, slightly soft in its feel. But, thats not a bad thing, feeling like a Bandit! Take-off roll in calm conditions and bumpy draggy grass is still 50m today, a little wind, the wheels bedding in and smoother grass and it will come down a lot. Landings are still slow and gentle, again, a good pull on flare is needed like a Bandit.
Knife edge is the only thing it's not doing as I wished, I think the rudder could have done with being 20% bigger, but long slow rolls track fine with the rudder available.
Couple of my friends had a go today and both seemed to like it.

Winner, a really great aeroplane

Dave

Bloody hell Dave! how close is the Motorway to your flying site?

Habu does look to have fantastic performance with a P20 . . . . I hope that cargo ship is moving at flank speed!!

Long lens...a field and a bit away.

It's a finger tip 110mm empty main tank, does feel slightly nose heavy on full tank, but 2min into the flight feels OK. I was doing some "hovering" today and no wing drop. Also just charged ECU pack after 8 flights....596mAh...so 20+ flights in my ECU pack!! Have not bothered charging Rx as voltage is 7.99-8.0v after the 8 flights, will fly again tomorrow and then charge!
Few more pixs. You can see how much elevator is used on take off...it floats off at this setting. Did quite a few inverted spins today aswell and after each flight MAP had a tiny bubble only.

Eleven flights now from rough grass and I've had to "tweek" by hand one main leg forward as it had moved back a fraction. Operation perfect, every time. They "wear" for the first three or four flights then they seem to stay as they are.I see no reason to "upgrade" Anyway a complete set is £75!!
