If you have Microsoft Excel on your computer, I can help you. I built an Excel spreadsheet that does that fuel calculation and several others that I would be happy to send to you (or anyone else for that matter) via E-mail. You must have MS Excel to run it .

I use the following process:
I gallon of fuel = 128 0z
10% nitro = .1 x 128 = 13 0z nitro (rounded off answer)
20% oil = .2 x 128 = 26 oz oil (once again I rounded the answer.)
I use a Pyrex measuring cup, measure the nitro and oil, pour it in a one gallon fuel can, fill the balance of the can with methanol and I am done.

JLLayton,
Where do you buy the oil?

I usually buy mine at the Toledo expo from Klotz.
It is sold in motorcycle, go kart and snowmobile shops. It pays to shop around as prices vary, it also, in some cases, pays to buy in case lots.

Someone told me once that the oil for larger engies was a different formula and would damage these little higher rpm engines. Was this just a marketing ploy?
Snow mobile and motorcycle shops are generally pretty expensive places to shop but not as expensive as hobby shops. If that kind works, I'll give it a try.
I use all .40 to .60 c.i. size engines. 2 stroke and 4.
I know the klotz I've been using is thinner than the oil I use in my chainsaws. Haven't compared it to motorcycle oils available.

Any one consider that the nitro content may be independant of the oil content? For instance 15% nitro + 85% methanol=100%. Then oil is added to that mixture at 18-20%.

Think about the boat racers who run 80% nitro, that would leave no % for methanol. Engine won't run on oil and nitro.

Go to www.klotzlube.com, You will find all kinds of info on their oils and you will also find a dealer locater.

I have been using their stuff for years in models and racing go Karts with very good results.

You work with racing go-carts?
I've been gathering items to build a 2 seater go-cart for a few years. It's actually going to be more like a mini dune buggie to play out in the hills. I need a good rear end with limited slip or better yet posi track.
I have a 400 yamaha motorcycle engine and planned to just put an axle with a sproket welded to it between 2 bearings to keep it cheap. Then use spline drives and U joints so the suspension would work and have plenty of ground clearance. A transaxle of some kind would be better but I want to keep weight to a minimum.
What do you guys use? I never seen the racing carts up close and I haven't found anything I like that's reasonable price looking at parts for quad runners.

I use to race Go Karts, now I race a mini sprint (occasionally).
I really can't help you much with the sort of thing you are building as it sounds far removed from a racing Kart.
