Anyone put one of the fairly new 95's in a Toni yet?
Was wondering what prop would work best. I'm thinking maybe an 11x12 or 12 x 12

Your thoughts?

I used a 13x13 APC Pattern prop on my Great Planes Minnow which is an almost identical plane. I used electric power and it ran about 11,000RPM or so. I don't know what kind of revs a OS 95AX would turn with that much pitch however. If it is too much load the motor will never get up on the pipe and reach max output.

I've run the engine on my Dirty Birdy with a 12x12 prop, seemed the engine wanted more pitch. It's a torquey one.
I'll probably start with the same prop and go from there.
Just wondered if anyone else has went this route.

I'm considering this same engine for a Patriot XL. Thanks for the posts! I was wondering what prop to start with myself, as the recommended sizes only cover the "sport" pilot

I'll be watching this thread with great interest. A little off topic... but I have a .91 Surpass II on a Toni with a 11x11 APC and it screams!

bigger we have found that no matter the engine except the DF ones to run 8-10" pitch max for best speed on that plane. for the OS120 AX the 15x10 gave the best speed. so for 95 i would go with a 13x10 or 14x10.

no i do not but there are two of those at our club. some have tried the 90's and one is on the supertiger 2300. with as much drag as this plane has we found that anything higher than a 10" pitch slowed it down. really needs more prop arc than a 12" prop for sure. If your 95 is new i would sell it and put the 120AX or a large DF engine in it if want a two stroke. YS110-140 FS i would think would be the fastest if not using a DF engine.

try the 12x12 your self then try a 13x10 or 14x10 with radar and let us know?

no not really. the wing is good but the fus is big and slows the plane down alot. to get it to fly fast it needs a big engine. Sure a .60 will fly it and a small FS will also but not fast.

I think that I'll be limited to about 12" prop for ground clearance. I have an older Saito 150 that I'd throw on there if I was sure I could swing a 14" prop. Besides, I want to go fast, but I don't need to set any records. My thumbs aren't quick enough for record-setters

I was talking about the Patriot XL. My Little Toni is fast enough for me with the 91 and an 11x11 prop. I wish I had access to a radar gun, just to see what she's peaking at.

I may be a little late joining this thread, but I have a Little Toni with an OS91 Ducted fan engine on it that is almost finished. Has anyone used this combination before? What prop should I start with? I fly at 4500'. I ran this engine with a 12x8.5 formula 1 prop and 30% fuel, but only got 16,500 out of it on a test stand.

Any help will be appreciated.

I think you're going to need something less than 12" in diameter for that engine for it to spin up.

the fastest i ever hear of one of these planes going was around 145-150 wit ha DF engine. so look at what pitch speed you will need to run that fast at 20,000 rpm then go up or down to get that rpm.

I have two little toni's now, one electric and one glow. The electric has a 14x10 APCE E, Actro 40-5, 100amp ESC, 12S 3300mah Lipos, about 4kg all in, blistering performance, but getting zero marks in competions for sound, so...... Set up identical plane, but with new OS 95V four stroke engine, going to start with a 14x8, not expecting the same speeds but should be lighter, and better all rounder, might get longer than 10 min flights? Anyone have any thoughts? The scale routine includes loops rolls, immelmans, split 's' cuban 8, etc etc.

For a engine like the 91VRDF to get max power output you can't use more than 9" diameter props, otherwise your tipspeed will get too high inducing way to much drag.
@23.000 RPM the engine delivers 4.8 hp, at those kinds of RPM your tipspeed with bigger than 9" will approach MACH 0.9...........
Props usually used for these kinds of RPM are continuous strand carbon props. Normal plastic props are likely to disintegrate at this kind of revs.....

Just learned this lesson a short while ago myself through this forum as I've got a Picco P80 DF engine that gives 5.5hp @ 23.000 RPM, will put it on a Nemesis NXT made by www.air-c-race.de

Finally got the wing repaired after a botched landing.
Still running pig rich breaking the new engine in.
So far, speeds as follows:
12 x 10 113 mph
12 x 11 114 mph
12 x 12 116 mph
11 x 12 104 mph
13 x 11 104 mph

These speeds are on different days, no wheel pants, no cowl. Speeds recorded by Eagletree.

I figure another 10 mph tuned for speed, another 5-10 mph with wheel pants and cowl.
Then...add tuned pipe for maybe another 8-10 mph.

Sorry to burst your bubble lol 10mph tuned for speed ? what does that mean.
You might get 2-4 mph with the cowl and minus 2-3mph with the wheel pants installed ( they add more drag than the wheel alone)
8-10 mph more with a tuned piped lol nope dont see it work out that way.

Over all i might say 5-7 with pipe and cowl.

Tuned for speed means leaned out for maximum speed, not 1000 rpm richer...not pig rich as stated above.
As for wheel pants, some help aeros, some do not. Depends on frontal area and how sharp the trailing edge is.

Some further speeds with the engine tuned properly, still no cowl or wheel pants or tuned pipe.

12x10 119 mph
12x11 117 mph
13x11 116 mph

Still got a few more props to try before I add a tuned pipe.
