I saw a fellow by the name of Dennis Crooks fly a P-38 with 2 Husquvarna inline twins. This combo was really fast.
Does anyone have any info on these motors?

The Engines were/are made by Russ Stoltz and are called Husky Challengers..The P38 that Dennis raced in the USRA racing series was radar clocked at one of the races at somewhere around 195 mph..The engines were 8.8 inline twins, using Husky 4.4 parts, running two 1/4-32 rimfire spark plugs in each cylinder fired by C&H ignition....The engines were counter rotating. 1 of the starters was wired to run clockwise..
The engines are the finest examples of an inline twin you will ever see...I think the current P38 uses smaller engines and is quite a bit slower than the race version...
You will not hear an airplane sound like that P38 anywhere. There are 2 firing impulses each revolution, so 8000 rpm sounds like 16,000. ..AWESOME is the only description...

RCIGN1,
I saw this plane fly at the D.O.G.S. show at Wright Patterson AFB and it was clocked at 230 mph. It was the fastest there ( including turbines).
It was the most impressive sight and sound I've ever heard from an R/C aircraft.
Am I to assume this is a custom engine built from 2 single cylinder engines?
Is this airplane retired now?

Yes, custom built...It must have the larger engines they were planning to use years ago...Our old engine weight limit was 8 lbs apiece for twin engine airplanes...The weight limit was changed, but Dennis has never raced the faster P38...230 puts it right up there with the current unlimiteds....The new engines must be made from the next larger size Husqvarna chain saw.....
