     I am very seriously considering a build of the Hostetler Cessna 150/152. I was wondering if you all might know where to purchase the cockpit windows (front and back) and the door glass?

If any of you have built this airplane can you e-mail me some pictures of your build and any and all advice on the build is more than welcome.

Please advise.

I purchased a window kit from a guy here on RCU a couple years ago . I don't remember his name but maybe this link is him .....

BTW .. Please run a build thread on this when you get to it . I have'nt seen anyone else do an in depth build yet and I think it is a great subject.
I have all the parts but I have about 5 other builds to complete first before I can start mine....

         Thank you for the link. I e-mailed him this morning. If he has the windows, and Fiberglass specialties has the cowl and wheel pants. (Unless any of you know where to get the fiberglass pieces cheaper).

I am thinking of going with www.nationalbalsa.com To buy a full laser cut kit, but first I have to purchase the plans from Hostetler.

Currently I am on the road until at least March and probably until early summer.

Once I can get all the pieces of the puzzle in some semblence of order. I will definately start a build thread as I have looked everywhere I know to look and I dont see any build threads of this model going.

Tom Crump and Glen McIntosh are building Hostetler Cessna 195's and have a great build thread going.

Anyway I will start a thread as soon as the pieces are in play.

Until then, Thanks again for the link.

If anyone else here has links etc for the Cessna 150/152. Link em here. I will post links as I find them.

It should not be this difficult to find this stuff. The only grumble I have is, I sent an e-mail asking Hostetler where to find the windows and still have not heard back from them. They only have links for the fiberglass pieces.

Status: offline 		I haven't seen the 150/152 plans, but usually the builder makes his own windows out of sheet stock.

My 195 plans have a windscreen pattern printed on them. The side windows are flat, made from sheet stock. No pattern was provided for them, but it wasn't necessary.

         You are correct.

All:
     I called Mr. Hostetler yesterday and spoke with him a little and he informed me that the windows are in fact made out of flat stock. I also called "PROBUILDER" and he has built this airplane for the movies and they were made just to crash. (What a shame.) Anyway Fiberglass Specialties has available the cowl and wheel pants.

I was wondering if anyone knows where to find the strut "cuffs"?

Tom can you help out here? I would think the Cessna 195 has similar cuffs.

I plan on ordering the plans from Mr. Hostetler very soon. I am on the road and still figuring out the part pieces. More to follow.

Status: offline 		Glenn, The 195, basically, has "model airplane" landing gear. There are no cuffs.

In my opinion, It would be easiest to order the plans, then find sources for what you need, or can not make.

Parts for Wendell's plans are readily available from suppliers listed on his site. Anything not listed, is usually made by the builder. Don't let this intimidate you. Although the build will be more difficult than your Bravo, it won't be uncompleteable. (Is that a word???) The knowledge that you gained building it, provideed you with the experience necessary to build the 150/152.

Any questions that you may have, will be answered by members of RCU, to the best of our ability.

         Thanks. I was talking about the wing strut cuffs, where the wing strut meets the wing and the fuselage. I am pretty sure they can be done out of balsa. I was just wondering if there is a source commercially?

I am going to order the plans either today or in 2 weeks.

Status: offline 		Glenn, the 195 doesn't have wing struts. Making cuffs for them shouldn't be too dificult.

I'd use foam, Carving/sanding them to shape. When I was happy with the form, I'd glass the cuff. When cured, I'd dig out the foam.

         Thanks again. Sounds like a very good idea. As soon as I get the plans I will see what they say. I am pretty bad about making mountains out of mole hills. I bet it is a no brainer.

I would think that since the Hostetler site does not link the cuffs, they are a simple affair.

Time will tell.

Study your plans, well, before you start construction. Hostetler designs aren't overly difficult to build, but some thought has to go into it. I found it hard to decifer what types of wood, he was using, where. I figured it out, though. All went well.

At that wingspan, you can bet that the wing will break down.

Again, I suggest that you ask questions after you receive the plans.

Hostetler designs in a traditional manner. No big surprises lie ahead of you.

The instrument (most of them, anyway) can be purchased from Hobby Lobby. The knobs were turned on a lathe, by Glenn. He's not really interested in doing them, to sell.

Glenn and I are both waiting for warm weather, so we can start priming our Cessnas.

We will use a layering method, to produce simulated raised panels, on the airframe. It takes time, lots of masking, etc. Neither of us want to blow up our shops, so we have to wait until we can paint in a well ventilated area.

          Understood. I will surely start checking into the instruments. Tom I have a quick question for you. I have a door I bought for the Bravo construction. I was wondering what you used for your cessna? Did you do sheetrock on top of a flat surface or ceiling material?

All:
     This build is a little special to me. I started in RC and full scale flying back in 1984, My first solo and check ride was done in a Cessna 150/152. I went on to become an airframe and powerplant technician and worked in that industry (mostly corporate jets) until 2008. I have 2 cessna's in mind that I am interested in, possibly scaling this build to. The first airplane is still flying and it is the one I soloed in (N61282). It is a Cessna 150 with the old pull start. The other aircraft was a Cessna 152 (N757UK) and it was crashed after my check ride. The pilot got carb ice and spun it in. The plane was a total loss.

Looking forward to getting the plans, parts/pieces and starting the build. Man the wife is going to be PO'd cause I am taking her room back.

I build on a door. I can't remember the name of the material that is on top of it, but the "modern equivalent seems to be homasote, available at building supply houses


Edit: The name of the material on my building board is Cellotex.

I Received the plans from Hostetler today. Came in 2 large sheets.

This is a big honkin airplane. 

I am just being curious here, but where have you guys got your kits cut? A quick search shows the link I posted at the start of this thread. Then there is precision cut kits. They appear to be swamped. It would be nice to have some links to other kit cutters posted in this thread. 

More to follow. Of course I have to get home and pull the trigger on a laser cutter.

Status: offline 		Be sure to research any kit cutter that you decide on.

PCK may be swamped, but you get your product. Problems have arisen with a few (very few) other kit cutters. Make sure that you know who you are sending your $$$ to.
