Hi my names Kris, I am currently buying two Tamiya Iowa class kits, New Jersey and Iowa. I think they are out of stock. But anyway I want to upgrade them to RC. I have no idea how to do this and where to get the full RC kits needed. I want to make them like the infrared battle tanks. So left right screw throttle control, rudder control (If easily possible.), remote movable gun mounts (fwd and aft turret separate.), Infrared in the gun mounts, receivers on port and starboard, smoke generator for turrets and damage, if possible the engines to run on fuel not dc (If it doesn't matter that much let me know.) and lastly but not leastly sounds cannon fire hit received and emergency stations alarm (for the dead ship). Oh and maybe a motor with a weight balance that will rock the ship on cannon fire/hit. I obviously want to start off with the basics and work my way up. I have never built an rc circuit or infrared. I have electronic knowledge and just want to find a place where I can get it all.  I am in Australia and would prefer a seller in my own country but have no idea where to start. I would like to get a decent transmitter that could do all this and a matched kit for the turret turning/movement control/firing so it’s all on the one remote. Any help with this would be appreciated thanks for your time.

Your question is pretty broad and would reguire a lot of answers that would begin with "it depends....". The first being the scale. notice you are in OZ. The Australian Batrtle Group ausbg.org probably has a local club relatively nearby, and they have been doing 1/144 scale model warship combat with actual rotating turrets ball-bearings busting through balsa hulls and sinking each other for over a decade. They have made a lot of innovation in the sport had have lots of very clever minds to tap into - a really nice group overall.

You might find that the IR battle stuff does not translate well to tolling ships in bright sunlight, by the way - you may want to experiment with some of the existing IR battle hardware out there before fully committing to this route.

The first question- it appears they make a 1/350th scale full and a 1/700 scale waterline only version. Forger the 1/700 scale waterline - you have nothing below the warterline to work with and it will be far to small to work with for what you want to stuff in. The 1/2350th should be well under one meter long and would be and incredibly tight fit both volume and weight wise. I believe http://dreadnoughthulls.com/, also in OZ has a nice Iowa hull in 1/144 that will give you plenty of yoom to work with, but you will need to build all the deckhouses, etc. They also have several other hulls to play with that might be an appropriate size.

Cheers
